Jurassic Park has undoubtedly been one of the biggest franchises of all time. From conquering audiences with the thrilling dinosaur plot to releasing one after another popular sequel, the franchise even came up with the Jurassic World trilogy. But now, while the fourth installment of Jurassic World is struggling to land a director, fans call out the second sequel.
Although the Jurassic Park movies are a sort of pop culture element, fans are still divided over the second controversial Jurassic World sequel. With a few netizens slamming the 2018 installment Fallen Kingdom, featuring Chris Pratt, others are pointing out how it was the only movie that came close to entertaining them.
Jurassic World Resurrected the Jurassic Park Franchise
After Hollywood came up with the 1993 Jurassic Park movie that sent shockwaves with its storyline and thrilling scenes, it turned into a pop culture element. Soon, the entertainment industry began capitalizing on it, as they came up with further sequels and even created theme parks like that shown in the films.
Thereafter, the Jurassic Park sequels although tried to maintain the position created by the first film, they struggled mightily at the box office. Therefore, after releasing three installments, producers left hope over the franchise. However, in 2015, the popular film series was again resurrected when Hollywood came up with the Jurassic World films.
Initially, beginning a new saga starring Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, a velociraptor trainer, Jurassic World offered hope to the audiences in 2015. But unfortunately, although the film succeeded in restarting the franchise, it failed to garner the same amount of praise and fanbase as the OG 1993 Jurassic Park.
Fans are Divided Over Chris Pratt’s 2018 Fallen Kingdom
However, despite failure, Chris Pratt didn’t lose hope over his Jurassic World franchise. Therefore, after restarting the film series, Pratt’s 2015 movie eventually turned into a franchise of its own, with three back-to-back sequels. But unfortunately, with each passing installment, the franchise started losing fanbase and garnered mixed reviews.
Although Chris Pratt’s 2015 Jurassic World managed to bag somewhat of a positive review for resurrecting the franchise, the 2018 sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom turned into a massive flop. The continuation was unfortunately not as well received, as it was hoped. Further, it even became the worst-rated movie in the entire franchise with a 46% RT rating from critics and 48% from audiences.
None of the Jurassic World movies are good, but the brief period where Fallen Kingdom becomes a haunted house movie with dinosaurs is probably the closest they get https://t.co/5KFGAzYk2W

I felt nuts when I saw people online say the first half of this was good then it became bad.
First half was a worse Lost World. Second half was a Slasher movie in a Resident Evil setting with a dinosaur, absolutely the best thing this franchise has done since the original.

Fun fact for years after watching, I only remembered that part of it and claimed that Fallen Kingdom was good. Then I was reminded of the rest of it.

It’s funny, cause from a pure directing standpoint I think Fallen Kingdom might be the best since Lost World. But the script and screenplay are just so awful that the directing just does nothing to save it.
But there are scenes that are so suspenseful and use shadows so well.— Ryan Jensen (@RyJensen30) February 20, 2024
Before Trevorrow came onboard there was a brief period when Jurassic World was going to be directed by J. A. Bayona with a screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and I am so sad we never got to see that version

I like that the first half is a very loose remake of The Lost World and the last half becomes a horror movie set in a gothic castle with a monster and underground lab.

Recently, as the franchise is planning on bringing a fourth installment, fans shared their divided opinion on X, over the 2018 sequel. With some netizens slamming the movie as a complete disaster, others point out how a few scenes and thrilling sequences from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom were the best they watched so far in the franchise.
Jurassic World 4 Struggles to Land a Director
Meanwhile, Jurassic World 4 which was announced getting fast-tracked with its production for a planned release in 2025, has been struggling to land a director. Although initially David Leitch was reportedly in talks to direct the movie, his negotiations seemingly collapsed. Thereafter, as per Variety reports, Gareth Edwards stepped in to take on the directorial responsibilities in association with Universal Pictures.
It appears that if Gareth Edwards really steps in to take on the fourth installment, the franchise might still have some hope. Especially since he is popularly known for launching the MonsterVerse by directing the Godzilla reboot released in 2014, Edwards currently appears to be a savior for the Jurassic World franchise. Unfortunately, the movie isn’t yet officially titled, and even Edwards isn’t officially confirmed to be the director.
