After the success of the Jurassic World series, there was a spell of silence from Universal Studios with no news of future projects being produced anytime soon. But a couple of months back, reports were suggesting that a brand new film in the franchise is definitely in the works with no strings attached to any of the previous projects.

In fact, since the initial reports started rolling in, there has been a ton of development on the project with both Universal and Amblin Entertainment now looking for a new filmmaker to helm it in the future. While it was earlier rumored that maybe David Leitch will become the upcoming film’s director, it’s now seeming more likely that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards will be helming the project.

The Jurassic franchise needs no explanation when it comes to the sheer cultural impact that it has left on the world ever since the first film more than thirty years ago. And still, it seems like the craze for new projects in the franchise hasn’t died down, which is why Universal might be trying to sort of restart everything from scratch in the new Jurassic World project.

As it stands, the film is still in its late pre-production stage, which will be sped up when the studios bring a director on board to helm the project, Several reports suggested that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch may have been chosen to lead the project, which is now no more the case.

Instead, the one who has constantly been making rounds with both Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment executives for this film is Gareth Edwards, the filmmaker behind Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As reported by Deadline, it seems highly likely that Edwards might be the final choice for both companies since the production of the project needs to be put into action as soon as possible. And considering that Leitch took his leave from the conversations pretty recently, they had to ramp up the search for a new director, which landed them with Edwards.

Since the filmmaker is already in talks with the executives, it seems like he’ll most likely take the offer and start the process, which will also ramp up the pre-production schedule.

The potential association of Edwards with this new project might just be what the upcoming film needed, especially since the filmmaker is known for creating Godzilla in 2014, which gives him experience with giant monsters.

As for who else is involved with the project, it has been revealed that David Koepp has penned the script for the upcoming film while prolific filmmaker Steven Spielberg will be the executive producer through his label Amblin Entertainment. While we may not know any details of what’s to come, it’s being assured that the film will be a separate entity from what has come before it in the franchise.
