The Jurassic Park franchise has etched its name in the annals of film history, going on to become one of the most celebrated movie franchises of all time. With six entries being released over the span of over 3 decades, it won’t be amiss to claim that the only thing large about the movie isn’t the size of the dinosaurs themselves – its legacy is also without comparison. Anyone would die to be associated with the franchise. There is one exception though – Laura Dern.
Laura Dern has been a long part of the Jurassic Park world
When the first chapter of the series, Jurassic Park, hit the theatres, fans couldn’t resist the prospect of catching a glimpse of the fabled reptilian beasts. It was a phenomenon, to say the least. Sir Richard Attenborough’s towering presence was a blessing for the movie. Sam Neill was another mainstay in the franchise.
Right alongside him throughout his journey is another legend of the franchise – Laura Dern. The Little Women star, playing the role of Dr. Ellie Sattler, lent a heart to the movies, always being an integral part of the franchise. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the franchise wouldn’t have been the same without her.
Laura Dern had to step away from the Jurassic World
Laura Dern has been a real pillar for the Jurassic Park franchise. No wonder that any of the reboots wouldn’t really be deemed complete without her. That was how they planned things to be when a fourth entry in the franchise was announced in 2007.
If only she would stick around till the end. As fate would have it, the plans would be scrapped after a long list of events. She would later admit that she was “curious” about the movie – how it would take shape and what the future held for the franchise. But it wasn’t meant to be.

Jurassic World went on to break some records
Years down the line, the Academy Award winner is of the opinion that it all turned out for the best. She said,
“I’m thrilled not to be chased by dinosaurs in this movie. I am tired.” (IMDb)
It’s understandable after all. Even Steven Spielberg’s appeal is not enough to obviate some factors. One can imagine how taxing starring in a movie about dinosaurs could be. Imagine having to be a part of your fourth. It’s only natural that she was not ready to be associated with the franchise back then. She might be regretting that taking into account that the movie had broken some major records.
It shattered some major records at the time. It became the highest domestic opening of all time back then, surpassing The Avengers, surpassed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 when it came to international openings. With a $524.1 million global opening, it became the highest global opening of all time. Some movie it was.
No wonder the Wild at Heart star would return for another rodeo in the Jurassic Park franchise, starring in Jurassic World Dominion.
