Despite being one of the most celebrated shows of all time, HBO’s Game of Thrones has been rapidly fading away from pop-culture after its extremely polarizing final season. As the show neared its end, reports of multiple spin-off shows had surfaced. Though most of them have been abandoned for the moment, House of the Dragon is seemingly making some progress.

Earlier this year, the spin-off was reported to premiere in 2022. And if reports are to be believed, a popular star from Doctor Who is being eyed by the production house.

According to The Illuminerdi, HBO is reportedly eyeing Doctor Who star Matt Smith for the role of Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of King Viserys I. Though no official confirmation has yet been released, the description for the character does suit Matt Smith.

Prince Daemon Targaryen – Male, Age 40 – Series Regular

The younger brother to King Viserys, Daemon wasn’t born with “naked ambition” for the throne despite being in line for it. He’s less methodical and more impetuous. Not to mention easily bored…stumbling from one distraction to the next with the subconscious yet singular obsession with earning the love and acceptance of his brother the king. Most of Daemon’s joy is found at sword-point. But even as the most experienced warrior of his time, he vacillates between vile and heroic, making him the true rogue of the series.

Best known for his role as the Eleventh Doctor in the massively popular British science-fiction series, Matt Smith had also received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Prince Phillip in Netflix’s critically acclaimed The Crown.

WHO IS DAEMON TARGARYEN?

The younger brother to King Viserys Targaryen, Daemon is described as a handsome, dashing, mercurial, and hot-tempered individual with exceptional prowess in swordsmanship. Despite being close to his brother, Daemon’s eyes were set on the Iron Throne. As King Viserys I had planned his daughter, Rhaenyra, to succeed him as the ruler of Westeros, Daemon’s ambitions were dashed and he rebelled. Despite the birth of a son from Viserys’ second marriage, Daemon’s desire for the throne was unfazed. As the battle for the throne began, Daemon played a major role in the Dance of the Dragons, which led to the extinction of dragons till the arrival of Daenerys Targaryen.
