Pedro Pascal’s Co-star Became Youngest Emmy Contender
The HBO’s adaptation of mushroom apocalypse, The Last Of Us turned out to be a major triumph following the release of its first season. Treading on terrifying grounds, where parasitic fungus evolved to threaten the existence of humankind, the post-apocalyptic prestige drama hooked its audience to the screen.
However, amid such nail-biting moments and game-over scenarios, The Last Of Us also enhanced the storyline with the heartbreaking saga of Sam (Keivonn Woodard) and his big brother Henry (Lamar Johnson). Thus, presenting an amalgamation of horror and heart, the Pedro Pascal starring series earned a whopping 26 Emmy nominations.
While the lead actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey turned eyes with their performance, Keivonn Woodard was the showstopper, as his heartbreak scene turned him into the youngest Emmy contender. At the age of 10, Woodard created history with his striking performance to be the youngest actor nominated in the category.
Keivonn Woodard Feels Honored By The Nomination
Being the first Black Deaf actor to earn a nomination, that too at the age of 10, Keivonn Woodard claimed to be “shocked” by the announcement. Speaking with Deadline, the young actor discussed learning about his nomination while attending baseball camp. Further realizing the gravity of the nomination, Woodard spoke his heart out.
“People kept sending messages, and I cried immediately because I never thought or dreamed it would happen to my son. You know, I never even considered it. After Keivonn got the role, I asked myself, ‘How do I even prepare my life?’ It wasn’t easy, especially as a Black Deaf mother and also being a widow. ” Keivonn Woodard’s mother shared.
Discussing how seriously Woodard took his role alongside Pedro Pascal in The Last Of Us, the young actor’s mother claimed, “he would say, ‘Mom, I got this.’ And he did”. Stating how things turned overnight following his appearance in the HBO’s acclaimed series, the 10-year-old star, recalled his relationship with his co-stars.
“Bella really became like a big sister, she knew [a bit of] British Sign Language…Pedro, he was able to understand and give hugs and [friendly] gestures…But Lamar, we were almost like brothers” Keivonn Woodard explained.
Further, stating how honored he is to achieve something so prestigious at such a young age, Woodard shared his gratitude for all. Hoping to win the nomination, Pedro Pascal’s young co-star currently wishes to be the youngest Emmy winner.
