With the release right around the corner, the developers are now much more willing to share details about the project to get people interested. In a recent interview, Pisces Interactive and THQ Nordic discussed the game’s length and the options for replayability, two aspects that have changed significantly from the original games.

The New Alone in the Dark Games Will Feature a Lengthy Experience

The upcoming Alone in the Dark game is much bigger than the original.

Speaking in an interview with Game Rant, Pisces Interactive, the developer handling this reimagining of the game, offered many details regarding the size of the campaign. The game will require players to choose between either Edward or Emily for their playthrough. When taking these two lengthy campaigns together, the new experience will be roughly three times the size of the original from 1992.

An average playthrough of Alone in the Dark 1992 will take between 4.5 and 5 hours. The game is also heavy on puzzles, which results in low replayability since players would already know the solutions after their first playthrough.

THQ Nordic was also part of the interview, and producer Andreas Schmiedecker said,

An initial playthrough with one character will take you about 6–10 hours, depending on your playstyle—how much time you take for the puzzles, whether you find and read all the clues, etc.

Replaying the game as the other character would not have the same experience as the first time. The Alone in the Dark characters will have unique cutscenes, collectibles, and other game elements that could get gamers to play even more than twice.

…the main incentive will be to play through both campaigns and experience the story from Emily’s and Edward’s perspectives. They both feature unique cutscenes and levels and, together, form a whole story. Additionally, players will only be able to find all collectibles (“Lagniappes” as we call them) on multiple playthroughs. And last, but not least, there might be secret endings and cutscenes only to be found by the most attentive players after multiple playthroughs.

Several Reasons Caused the Release of Alone in the Dark to Be Delayed

Players will need at least two runs through the campaign to experience the full story.

As mentioned before, the game was set to launch in October of last year. However, due to many big-name games releasing last year, Pisces and THQ decided to push the release.

The second delay occurred due to a pleasantly surprising reason: Pisces Interactive wanted its team to enjoy the holidays without worrying about the game’s launch.

The horror survival game is going to feature a chunky campaign, and with David Harbour and Jodie Comer taking on the roles of the lead protagonists, the reimagining promises to be a memorable experience for Alone in the Dark fans.
