James Gunn’s crown jewel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, has been having a field day at the box office ever since it hit cinemas, and rightly so. Critics couldn’t stop gushing about the emotional roller coaster of a storyline surrounding the cosmic misfits; they were practically worshipping the flawless execution of the superhero trilogy. And perhaps the balance that Gunn has maintained between humor and tragedy is what brought the movie together, enriching the cinematic experience for fans.

Speaking of humor, here’s a hilarious interaction between the director and the lead star about a prosthetic body double that they used in GoTG Vol. 3.

James Gunn & Chris Pratt – the Body Double S*xual Innuendo

Dark and cheeky humor is probably the trademark of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, so it’s not all too shocking that the castmates would indulge in the same behind-the-scenes as well. Or on press tours, for that matter. In a recent interview with IGN about the Marvel hit, Chris Pratt had quite the NSFW reaction to James Gunn‘s remark about Star-Lord’s life-sized fake body in his office.

While talking about the life-sized prosthetic body double that they used for Pratt’s Peter Quill, aka, Star-Lord in the movie, the director recalled how they designed a 35 lbs body that looked “exactly like” the 43-year-old actor. And as if the resemblance alone wasn’t “eerie” enough, Gunn kept the fake body in his office.

“I had it in my office for a long time and people would come in and scream,” Gunn, 56, said. What he meant was that people would shriek out of fleeting terror upon seeing the body double, but that’s not what Pratt heard. “They would WHAT in it and scream?” the MCU actor said, confusion and horror etched onto his face because he thought… well, he mistook it for people using the fake body for s*xual gratification, to put it delicately.

After an awkward back and forth of “what?” and “what’d you say?”, Pratt discerned his fallacy. “Oh!,” he exclaimed, realization hitting him like a truck and relief flooding his features. “I was like, ‘How many people did you let come in it and scream?” And all this while, Gunn is busy laughing his lungs out. “No! Dude – I let everybody have a crack at ol’ plastic Quill,” the filmmaker said in between bursts of intense laughter.

10/10 for humor.

Gunn and Pratt’s equation extends beyond just the professional bounds of filming the intergalactic adventure film series. The writer/director has been close friends with the actor for years now, deeming the Jurrasic World star “one of the best people in [his life.” “He’s unspeakably kind to people, he goes out of his way to help kids,” Gunn told Men’s Health last year.

Pratt too, shares a strong emotional connection with the Peacemaker director. After all, he’s responsible for bringing Gunn back to Marvel Studios to a great extent, after the company fired him due to a controversial social media debacle. While Pratt focused on organizing an open letter to Disney, urging the studio to reinstate Gunn, his co-stars too, left no stone unturned in ensuring his return to the director’s chair.
