THQ Nordic has finally returned fans to the Alone in the Dark series, with an exciting new story and plenty of puzzles to complete. Whether you play as Jodie Comer’s Emily Hartwood or David Harbour’s Edward Carnby, you will likely want some firepower.
While there are a few different weapons you will unlock in the game, the shotgun is one that can be obtained early and easily. It will make quick work of your enemies, and once you have killed an opponent with the firearm, the Hard Boiled trophy will be achieved.
The only thing you will need to do to get the shotgun is find three specific lagniappes, which are collectibles that have been disbursed throughout the game. They can all be found at the beginning of Chapter 2, which means there will be a lot of time where the gun is useful, as you continue through the rest of Alone in the Dark.
How to Get the Shotgun in Alone in the Dark
If you have found yourself looking at this guide, it’s likely you identified the location of the shotgun, but now you need to unlock it. However, if you have not yet found the weapon, it is located in a box on one of the walls in the Small Parlor (not to be confused with the Grand Parlor). It does not matter if you are playing as Emily or Edward, the shotgun is unlocked the same way.
The first step to unlocking the shotgun is to make sure you are in Chapter 2 of Alone in the Dark, and that you have returned from the oil rig dreamscape. Once you are back at Derceto, you will arrive in the Waiting Room and a cutscene will begin.
When the cutscene has concluded, the first lagniappe you will want to collect is the Waiting Room. The Rubber Stamp can be found on the counter to your left, and it is the item closest to the lamp.
The next step you will want to take is to go to the Small Parlor, where you will find the Palette Knife on the floor. This will be used to collect the second item, which is the Dog Collar lagniappe. It can only be recovered using the knife because it removes wedges.
Go into the Drawing Room right next to the Small Parlor and use the knife to get in. On the other side of the room, you will find the collar, on the bottom shelf of an old desk.
The last lagniappe you will want to find is the Fountain Pen, which is located in Jean Batiste’s room on the third floor. This is another very easy item to locate.
All you need to do is go to the room, and once you enter, walk to the far left corner. There you will find a glass table with a fan and a couple of bottles. There is also a magazine called Weird Tales, and the pen can be found on top of it.
Upon finding the Fountain Pen, the Rubber Stamp, and the Dog Collar, you will have everything you need to retrieve the shotgun.
Return to the Small Parlor and Claim the Shotgun
Now that you have all of the items necessary to get the shotgun, claiming it is as simple as returning to the Small Parlor and clicking on the box. You will be able to take down enemies more easily and look cool while doing it.
While this is a great way to get the shotgun early and is certainly a good idea for those who need an extra boost, it is not the only way to acquire the weapon. If you do not want to go around collecting lagniappes, the shotgun is also obtainable after the player has returned from the cemetery dreamscape, regardless of items collected. This will be right before the start of Chapter 3.
