This Wednesday, it was revealed that actress and musician Selena Gomez is all set to play the iconic music legend Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic. And, now, none other than the controversial director David O. Russell has been announced to helm the film, as reported by Variety.

Currently, in the pre-production phase, the untitled biopic will be produced by John Boylan and James Keach at the production helm. This dynamic duo has a proven track record, having previously made a 2019 documentary, Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.

David O. Russell To Direct Linda Ronstadt Biopic Starring Selena Gomez 

An upcoming biopic about the legendary singer Linda Ronstadt starring Selena Gomez in the lead role is confirmed. Adding to this news, now Variety has verified that Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell will be in the director’s chair of this anticipated project. 

Gomez teased her role earlier this week by posting a picture of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams on her Instagram story. Shortly after that, Gomez’s lead role was confirmed.

Ronstadt is a music legend in the genres of country, rock, folk, pop, and Latin, best known for her 1970s albums Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams as well as songs such as You’re No Good, Blue Bayou, and Long Long Time as well as her work in the group Trio alongside Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. 

No doubt, David O. Russell is an acclaimed filmmaker with five Oscar nominations, including three Best Directing nominations for The Fighter (2011), Silver Linings Playbook, (2013), and American Hustle (2015).

However, Russell’s career has been marred by allegations of misconduct, including a sexual assault claim from his niece and reports of tensions with American Hustle star Amy Adams. Actor George Clooney even recounted Russell’s alleged abusive behavior on the set of Three Kings in an interview with Playboy. Additionally, there are reports of Russell physically attacking Christopher Nolan at a Hollywood party, as detailed by the New York Times.
