In his interview with Collider, Hugh Grant confirmed the status of their relationship. He confidently said:

It is true. I’m married to James Bond.”

This alludes to Craig’s previous role as 007 in the James Bond franchise. He first appeared in 2006’s Casino Royale and made his last appearance as the famed spy in 2021’s No Time to Die. The actor continued to explain:

It’s the tiniest little moment. I don’t really know why they wanted to do it but anyway, I thought Knives Out 1 was brilliant, and so yeah, I thought why not? I turn up for a few hours…

The sequel film is still rooted in its Agatha Christie-style theme, but it also gives a nod to other beloved movie genres like romantic comedy. Hugh Grant is known for his popular rom-com films, and this scene where he comes out of the door in Benoit Blanc’s apartment is reminiscent of those early 2000s movies.

Meanwhile, Rian Johnson has debunked rumors about a Knives Out prequel movie that would reveal Blanc’s origin story. The director wants to show glimpses of the detective’s life through little moments, such as Hugh Grant’s scene.

Like many other successful franchises, Knives Out is also keen on building its own cinematic universe. As the third installment is already confirmed by Netflix, Johnson shared his thoughts with IndieWire about the movie’s title:

Honestly, I’m pissed off that we have ‘A Knives Out Mystery’ in the title. You know? I want it to just be called ‘Glass Onion.’ I get it, and I want everyone who liked the first movie to know this is next in the series, but also, the whole appeal to me is it’s a new novel off the shelf every time. But there’s a gravity of a thousand suns toward serialized storytelling.”

As fans wait for the upcoming third installment of the series, they can stream Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery on Netflix.
