Hugh Jackman will always be known for his portrayal as the iconic character of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise ever since its inception in 2000. With his Adamantium claws and a grisly beard to support his persona, people have loved the actor ever since.
Starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3, the world is excited to meet Logan again but before this film, Hugh Jackman had almost retired from the franchise. There was one actor, however, who could have filled his shoes (according to Jackman) and he is also known far and wide for his portrayal.
Hugh Jackman Feels Only One Actor Could Have Replaced Him
There are a few roles in this world that cannot be portrayed by any other actor. Naturally, anyone else other than Hugh Jackman picking the role of Wolverine would seem pretty weird and he would probably receive a lot of backlash.
There was one actor, however, that Jackman felt could have portrayed the character of a younger Wolverine. The actor in question is also worldwide famous for his role as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and his name… is Heath Ledger.
“Originally when I played it – when he was alive, god rest his soul – I thought Heath Ledger could be a good young version of [Wolverine].” said Jackman to Yahoo! Movies
The actor quickly added that it would be a little weird seeing someone else in the role of Wolverine but Jackman has also accepted that he is going to get replaced one day. Well, that day is not anytime soon as the Wolverine actor readies himself for the launch of Deadpool 3 and also, maintaining Wolverine’s personality.
Hugh Jackman Doesn’t Want This Attribute of Wolverine To Change!
Well, it has been almost 24 years since Hugh Jackman donned the costume of Wolverine all those years back. Naturally, Jackman knows almost everything there is to know about his character, and starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3 might change one attribute of Wolverine. In an interview with First Showing, Jackman talked about Wolverine’s loneliness and how he doesn’t want to lose the “badass quality”.
“He’s someone who lives with a lot of regret and pain and, weirdly, vulnerability underneath. His natural thing, which I think is the same for a lot of people, is to retreat, to be a loner, to not rely, to not trust, to actually close off from the world.”
Hugh Jackman further continued,
“I don’t want him to completely do that because I don’t want him to lose his badass kinda quality. I think it’s a great thing to learn, that idea that, yeah, everybody finds it hard to trust and relate. That’s just one side. There are so many different sides to him.”
Hugh Jackman is all set to star alongside Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming film Deadpool 3 and the world is indeed excited with him. With director Shawn Levy at the helm of the project, the film is slated for a release date of 26 July 2024 in theaters across the world.
