Fans Vote Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine As Their Most Anticipated Performance
Hugh Jackman is coming back to play Wolverine and will star alongside Ryan Reynolds in 2024’s Deadpool 3. He had said multiple times that he was hanging up the role after 2017’s Logan. However, Reynolds and Kevin Feige have come up with an irresistible pitch that made Jackman come out of his retirement from the role for one last ride.
Discussing Film put up a list of the most anticipated returning performances of 2024 according to a Fandango survey. Not surprisingly, Jackman’s return as Wolverine topped the list beating out his co-star Reynolds’s Deadpool and other contenders like Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice, Tom Hardy’s Venom, and Jack Black’s Po.
Deadpool 3 also ranked as the most anticipated film of 2024 according to the same Fandango survey (via Deadline). A lot of expectations are riding on the film and being the only sole theatrical MCU film next year, it better deliver the goods.
Shawn Levy Says Logan Is Still Canon To The Events of Deadpool 3
Hugh Jackman’s Logan proved to be the final swansong for Wolverine as he dies at the end of the film. When Jackman was announced to be returning as the character in Deadpool 3, fans were confused as it didn’t make sense after he died in Logan. Deadpool 3‘s director Shawn Levy clarifies these concerns and reveals that the events of his film come before Logan.
Speaking to BroBible, Levy revealed that the filmmakers and crew of Deadpool 3 respect what James Mangold achieved with Logan, and they will not go against that film. He went on to claim that Logan is still canon to the narrative of the film. He said,
“I have always said that I can’t wait for Deadpool 3 to come out because all I want to do is give interviews alongside Ryan where we talk about our reverence for the movie Logan. Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan, every aspect of how it’s crafted, and all the events that take place.”
It remains to be seen how Levy deals with Wolverine’s arc in the film without affecting what happens in Logan. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
