Yoshihiro Togashi is one of the most incredible and talented manga artists in the industry, popularly known for his hit series Hunter x Hunter. This story is widely recognized as one of the absolute best in the shonen genre, if not the single greatest series out there.
The story follows our main character, Gon, who sets out on a journey to become a professional hunter but at the same time also searching for his long-lost father.
This legendary manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998, and it is still ongoing today, even though the last batch of 10 chapters was released in 2022.
Death as a Narrative Driver In Hunter x Hunter
Yoshihiro Togashi‘s Hunter x Hunter is an epic saga with over 37 volumes, 400 chapters, and 148 episodes. With a story like this, it is not a surprise that the story has seen its fair share of character deaths over the years.
Thousands of characters in Hunter x Hunter have met their death, ranging from nameless henchmen to some of the biggest villains of the series, including heroic hunters themselves.
In an interview, when asked about his preferred movie genres, he candidly stated,
“Rather than genre, I’ve always enjoyed situations where people die off. And as a result of that, I often watch horror and suspense films where that situation is played out.”
Just like how George RR Martin in Game of Thrones treats his characters with no mercy, the Hunter x Hunter creator also understands how important it is to kill off even the big characters for story effect. This thing shows that he’s truly the “George RR Martin of Anime”.
Yoshihiro Togashi Teases Release Timing for Hunter x Hunter Chapter 401
Previously Yoshihiro Togashi announced that the next Hunter x Hunter chapter 401 is now ready to publish, however, the only holdback that is causing the delay at the moment is that the Shonen Jump magazine editor is still trying to figure out the best time, and place to release this long-awaited new chapter.
Yoshihiro Togashi hasn’t shared any details about what exactly Chapter 401 will contain. It’s unclear whether the chapter will pick up immediately where the previous one left off, or if it might shift to focus on a different set of characters and storylines. Fans will just have to wait patiently to see what Togashi has in store.
