During these strenuous scenes, Knight, at his maximum weight, began experiencing palpitations and angina pains. Concerned, he consulted a doctor and discovered he was on the path to Type 2 diabetes, with blood pressure changes in his heart. He shared,

“In the process of doing that, at my maximum weight, I began to have palpitations and what I felt were angina pains. I wound up going to a doctor, found out that I had blood pressure changes in my heart that I was heading towards type 2 diabetes.”

The realization prompted him to start taking steps towards improving his health and ultimately led him to the point where he is today, feeling healthy. Knight acknowledged the impact that the show and his experience on it had on his life and expressed his gratitude towards the showrunner and his co-star Jerry Seinfeld.

In a CBS News interview, Knight openly discussed his journey to achieving significant weight loss and getting into shape. The actor revealed that he shed nearly 100 pounds as part of his commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

He credited his transformation to the support he received from various people along the way.  He also shared that he focused on increasing physical activity and reducing calorie intake. And his support group including his cardiologist, trainer, and psychiatrist played a crucial role in the process.

“We’ve got my cardiologist. We have my trainer. We have my psychiatrist. We have my support group,” he shared. Realizing the potential health risks associated with his weight, Knight embarked on extensive research and decided not to go through surgery. “It was too scary and too risky,” he shared. The 68-year-old actor reportedly lost 117 lbs and dropped his weight from 327 to 210 lbs.
