Up until recently, Park Seo-joon had been winning the hearts of Korean fans mainly with his immaculate acting skills in his numerous superhit K-movies and K-dramas like What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? and his all-time masterpiece Itaewon Class.

Then came his entrance into Hollywood with Marvel’s most recent film, The Marvels, and now he is captivating the attention of Hollywood–especially Marvel–fans as well! Yet, one major fault rests with his debut Hollywood movie: his minute screen time of 2-3 minutes out of a total runtime of 105 minutes of the movie–which was shorter than even the cooking time of instant noodles.

The fact that he had such minimal screen time even in his debut English film had numerous fans disappointed. However, being the incredible personality that he is, Seo-joon was positive even about his minute screen time! Speaking with SBS Star about this issue with his first Hollywood film, he said:

“I think Aladna and ‘Prince Yan’ are the place and the figure that is important for showing the growth of ‘Carol Danvers’. Some might think my part in the movie is too short, but I believe it plays a crucial part in the overall narrative of ‘The Marvels’.”

Perhaps, it does play a major and crucial role in the overall narrative of The Marvels and the upcoming installments from the franchise as well, as Park Seo-joon claims? However, to confirm that you’ll have to catch him in the film which is out in the theatres now!

During another interview with The Guardian, Park Seo-joon shared his experience working on his first English film that marks his debut in the Hollywood film industry as well as in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“When I first heard that the Marvel Cinematic Universe wanted to speak with me, I couldn’t believe it. I actually couldn’t believe it,” Seo-joon said.

In the film, the Dream star plays the character of Prince Yan, who is the prince of Aladna: a place where every last inhabitant speaks musically. When Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers pays him an emergency visit with his team, an unusual past connection between the pair unfolds itself, adding more fun to the movie.

Seo-joon then revealed how he felt while shooting his scenes since he had to sing in almost all of them.

“I think they checked my vocal range before making the songs I had to sing, so I wouldn’t have trouble singing. During filming those scenes, I tried to focus more on capturing the character’s emotions than on singing well.”

Sharing his overall experience, he said:

“I’m not someone who has a fear of challenges, but whether I am filming in South Korea or abroad, everything is a challenge for me. So, I did feel some nerves at first. But everyone was so helpful and welcoming that I was able to find my feet really quickly.”

Not only did he find his feet quickly, but Park Seo-joon also did a tremendously perfect job in The Marvels despite it being his first-ever English film!
