Emma Stone is an incredibly talented and zealous actress who just as you’d think has given the best performance of her life, she will do one even better. And her performance in Poor Things was exactly that. Starring as Bella Baxter in the Yorgos Lanthimos flick, the actress won her second Academy Award for Best Actress for the role.
While this was her fifth Oscar nomination, the actress’ win is being celebrated across the internet. However, even more famous is the slight wardrobe malfunction she suffered which she blamed on her friend and fellow Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling’s live performance of I’m Just Ken.
Emma Stone Blames Ryan Gosling For Her Broken Dress
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling go way back to 2011 when they first starred together in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Ever since then, the two have remained the best of friends and supported each other. And even during the Oscars 2024, when Gosling was performing his Oscar-nominated and Grammy-nominated Barbie song I’m Just Ken, Stone can be heard vibing to it and even shared a silly moment with him.
While loved their interaction, Stone later on blamed her frequent co-star for her wardrobe malfunction.
“My dress is broken! I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken. I’m pretty sure.”
Stated Stone during her acceptance speech. And later on, while talking to the press at the event, the actress hilariously blamed Gosling again (via Variety),
“They sewed me back in! I genuinely do think I busted it during ‘I’m Just Ken.’ I was so amazed by Ryan [Gosling] and what he was doing, and that number just blew my mind. He was right there, and I just was going for it, and you know, things halsippen!”

Emma Stone Wins Her Second Oscar

While accepting her Academy Award for Best Actress, Stone looked visibly overwhelmed and stated,
“My voice is also a little gone. The other night, I was panicking – as you can kind of see, it happens a lot – that maybe something like this could happen. And Yorgos said to me, ‘Please take yourself out of it.’ And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. And that is the best part about making movies. It’s all of us together.”
Also taking the time to express her thanks to fellow nominees, Stone also thanked her little soon-to-be three-year-old daughter whom fans just can’t …get enough of seeing on her social media (via X).
