Most recently, the show aired one of its most tragic episodes, depicting an assault on Genosha that left more than a few high-profile mutants, including two X-Men, dead.

The teaser that Marvel released in the wake of the episode, and an interview with lead director Jake Castorena have put the focus on what is to come after the massacre in Genosha, pointing toward the wider superhero community coming to aid the X-Men, In an interview with Screen Rant, Castoerena has talked about the cameos that fans can expect, including the one explicitly teased in the teaser for the remaining season that Marvel released.

“Some personal favorite characters and some that may have been in the OG show and that we’ve seen before, maybe glimpses in some that we may not have seen animated before. But you will just have to stay tuned in to find out. But yes, I can confirm that there will be cameos and new characters and it will be good.”

Captain America has already been explicitly teased in the new trailer that Marvel released and will be sure to make an extended appearance as he did in X-Men: The Animated Series, where he teamed up with Wolverine. While the yellow boots also in the shot indicate someone like Rogue, the team-up may be with Wolverine again, in a bid to find out who ordered the attack on Genohsa.

There was a slew of non-mutant cameos in X-Men: The Animated Series

X-Men: The Animated Series had its fair share of cameos in the ’90s, ranging from Captain Marvel, who gave Rogue her slew of powers, to Captain America, who previously teamed up with Wolverine, Then there was also the crossover with Spider-Man, one that lasted for a whole two episodes. These cameos brought the wider Marvel Universe into the X-Men corner of the world and given how aggressively the characters are being pushed to co-exist in the universe, it is definitely possible that we will see more.

Characters like Black Panther and Doctor Strange have also made cameos in X-Men and could show up for extended roles in the series. Other characters like the Fantastic Four and Illuminati could also show up in the series, perhaps setting up a bigger conflict that has the mutants at its center. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Captain Britain are characters that have stronger connections to mutants and could appear in the show going forward.
