It seems Marvel Studios had been waiting for the right moment to integrate the X-Men into the MCU. And now, since X-Men ‘97 is turning out to be a super successful show, despite the audience’s superhero fatigues, studio president Kevin Feige seems to be dropping subtle hints on integrating the X-Men into the MCU, by renaming the X-Men account from “xmenmovies” to “xmenofficial”.

Kevin Feige Teased the Possibility of X-Men Joining the MCU

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has always expressed his desire to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe by releasing more content. According to a 2021 interview, Feige appeared excited to not only build an expansive universe but also turn it into a more diverse one, which will focus on lesser-known superheroes across MCU projects.

Further, during a 2023 interview with EW, Kevin Feige was heard addressing the rumor of the X-Men joining the MCU. Ever since Disney bought most of Fox’s film and television assets, fans have been speculating about the integration of X-Men into the MCU. Thus teasing that very rumor, Feige noted how the possibility is perhaps closer than ever.

The X-Men are as solid and as rich and as a great a concept in characters as exist. There’s the return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really bring you back to that core of who the X-Men are and that soap opera that those characters represent. And then in live-action, people will see. Perhaps soon.”

Taking about X-Men ‘97 during his interview, Kevin Feige hinted at the possibility of expanding the Marvel Universe with the X-Men animated series being the first to get integrated. And now that X-Men ‘97 is out and doing well among audiences, it seems the time is finally here.

Marvel’s Subtle Hint on X-Men ‘97 Getting Integrated to MCU

As people began expecting the integration of X-Men into Kevin Feige’s MCU, there came a subtle hint from Marvel, as they changed the username of the official X-Men Instagram account. While the X account still appears as “xmenmovies”, the Instagram name got rebranded to “xmenofficial”, as per X-Men Updates.

Although previously X-Men 97‘s former showrunner Beau DeMayo had explained that this show was not connected to the MCU, before his unceremonious exit, DeMayo was perhaps coy about the MCU connection. Maybe DeMayo was trying to surge the expectations of a grand tie-in of X-Men ‘97 with other MCU titles, as per Men’s Health.

Since the time is right and the animated show is even performing well despite fans’ superhero fatigue, Kevin Feige might be aiming for subtle hints to disclose that X-Men ‘97’s integration into the MCU is getting closer. Once the animated show becomes a part of the MCU, it will officially mark the entry of other X-Men projects into the cinematic universe.

Since Marvel changed the X-Men’s Instagram account name to “xmenofficial”, from what 20th Century Fox used for all their X-Men movies, fans believe this rebranding is perhaps the first attempt at integrating the films and the characters into the MCU.
