The world has not been the same ever since Denis Villeneuve dropped Dune: Part Two in cinemas. With an iconic storyline set in the desert planet of Arrakis, Dune is quite an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novels.
Jason Momoa, who portrays the role of Duncan Idaho, also loved working on the sets of the Dune franchise. With an iconic character to his name, Momoa addressed his potential Dune 3 return and stopped himself at just the right moment!
Jason Momoa Addresses His Dune 3 Return Rumors!
Being the protector of Paul Atreides comes at a personal cost. Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho knows it better than anyone else. Being a swordmaster to Paul Atreides’ father, Momoa’s character has been always important to the storyline.
With his role in Dune: Part One, the actor recently sat down for a chat with Men’s Health and talked about his favorite beer. During the interview, Momoa talked about how he could potentially return for Dune 3 if Villeneuve were to make one, and stopped himself at just the right moment before he could spill some secrets.
“It’ll be a good future now if Duncan Idaho may have some sort of … You know what we did have? Oh man, I can’t actually say this. I’ll get in trouble. F**k. Well, there was something that was really cool that went into the movie that didn’t make the first one, and it was pretty epic.”
As he managed to stop himself, Momoa concluded the statement by saying that his character also drinks Guinness (Momoa’s favorite drink). Well, although the Game of Thrones actor stopped himself at the right moment, we know what’s going to happen in the future if Villeneuve follows the books, and the future… is awesome.
Jason Momoa’s Character Has Quite The Lore In The Novels!
*Major Spoilers for the Dune franchise*
As we all know, Jason Momoa’s character Duncan Idaho dies a warrior’s death. In Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah, Idaho returns as a ghola named Hayt and is given to Paul Atreides. Not remembering much of his previous life, Hayt is trained to kill Atreides who has now become emperor.
Throughout the novel, the readers observe Hayt seeing glimpses of Idaho’s life. A dwarf by the name of Bijaz manipulates Hayt into killing Paul Atreides when he says the words “She is gone”. Before the plan could be executed, Hayt remembers that he was the swordmaster for the Atreides family and instead kills Bijaz while Paul Atreides kills Face Dancer Scytale (the creator of this whole plot).
Hayt is also a part of Children of Dune and is also present when Atreides goes off into the desert to die (as is the tradition of blind Fremen). So all in all, there is a lot more lore to Jason Momoa’s character than meets the eye, and if Denis Villeneuve were to complete the Dune story, then the world would surely thank him for it.
The recently released Dune: Part Two has received rave ratings and is currently screening in theaters across the world.
