When Men’s Health asked Momoa whether a cooler name exists than Duncan Idaho, he replied saying that while he loves the character, Duncan Idaho is not a name that he considers cool. He cited examples of character names that he has played that have a cooler name including Khal Drogo, Ronan Dex, and Declan Harp (Frontier). He said,

“There are definitely cooler names. I love Duncan Idaho, but it’s not the coolest. There are some pretty cool names, characters I’ve played, man. Khal Drogo is a pretty cool name. Even Ronon Dex was a pretty cool name. There’s Declan Harp, that was pretty cool. I have a couple in the future that are going to be pretty cool.”

Mamoa might not have considered Duncan Idaho a cool name, but he relished playing him and he had a great time on the first Dune. Further in the interview, he teased the character’s revival in the third Dune film, similar to the events of the Dune: Messiah book.

Timothée Chalamet leads the ensemble cast in Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune films as Paul Atreides. After the huge evolution of his character in Dune 2 and the success of the film, Villeneuve is set to make a third film in the foreseeable future. Last year, Chalamet let it out that Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho who was killed in Part 1 will be back in the third film.

In an interview with MTV, the actor finds it weird that the studio is treating the character’s return in the third film as a secret because the books have been out for such a long time. He said,

“Momoa will be back. Not in this one, but [in Dune Messiah]. Yeah, if you read the books… It’s so weird because they’re so secretive about the script and the trailer, but [the books] have been out there for 70 years.”

Momoa most recently starred in 2023’s Aquaman and the Last Kingdom. He will star in the upcoming drama film In the Hand of Dante opposite Oscar Isaac, Gerard Butler, and Gal Gadot. He will also lead the upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft which will be released in 2025.
