Everyone believed the breakup devastated The Goop Founder, and that was the sole reason, she refrained from doing the R-rated comedy film. However, that was not the case at all, as the Iron Man actress explained during a 2015 interview with Howard Stern via US Magazine, she explained that it was her dad and grandfather, who did not allow her to do the film, as opposed they being quite conservative.

“It was my dad. I really wanted to do it. My grandfather — I was very close to him and he was pretty conservative. I just thought, ‘I can’t be totally n*ked and like, giving a BJ on screen.’ Paltrow said of turning down Boogie Nights. I’ll kill my grandfather! So, I didn’t do it.”

However, in the same interview, she was asked if she had watched the explicit comedy film after its release, to which she answered, “I definitely saw that movie.” Paltrow’s absence from Mark Wahlberg’s film was definitely felt as her role was portrayed by Heather Graham, that is, she was offered the role of Rollergirl. Nevertheless, the film was a massive success generating a gross revenue of $43.1 million at the worldwide box office.

“Oh my God. I’ve f**ked up so many relationships, so many. I’m actually a pretty good friend and a good sister and a daughter and a mother but I am at my potentially most vulnerable and f**ked up in the romantic slice of the pie. So it’s taken me a lot of work to get to the place where I have a good romantic relationship. So Brad Pitt, if you’re listening. I f**ked that up, Brad.”

Though Paltrow sabotaged her relationship with the Fight Club actor, she was indeed in love with him as she confessed during Howard 100 hosted by Howard Stern, saying, “I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean, he was Brad Pitt! I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me.” Nevertheless, both actors went their separate ways and are now happily living with their respective partners.

Boogie Nights can be rented on AppleTV.
