George Clooney is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, with two Academy Awards and several other accolades to his name. In his early days, he really wanted to be cast in a particular movie, so he told a little white lie about his SAG status to a casting director.
Hollywood superstar George Clooney has revealed that he tried to trick a studio boss into believing he had previously worked on 1982 movie Cat People, in order to land his first movie role. And, the lie worked.
George Clooney Pleaded one Casting Director for a Role So that He Could be a part of SAG
George Clooney understood he needed to be a part of the Screen Actors Guild group if he wanted to stand a chance of finding decent projects in Hollywood.
During an audition, young George Clooney lied and claimed he was in the 1982 film Cat People because he was desperate to land decent roles so he could join the Screen Actors Guild and have a genuine chance at success in Hollywood.
“I remember lying to a casting director about this movie Cat People. She was like, ‘You were in that?’ I was, like, yep, and she goes, ‘Because I cast that.’ I finally just said, ‘I can’t get in the SAG. Help me!’ She helped me get a job on a film called The Predator. The movie never came out, that’s how bad a film it was. But I got my SAG card,” he said. (Via Vocal Media)
The Syriana actor claims that his lie was caught since the same person had cast the Paul Schrader-directed production. It is interesting to note that Clooney’s lie could have easily destroyed his career. If the casting director had reported him to the SAG, he could have been blacklisted. But luckily for Clooney, she decided to give him a second chance.
