As of now, the upcoming biopic is settled on the title I Play Rocky, which is subject to change in the future.
The film’s logline follows Sylvester Stallone‘s journey as a struggling actor, facing rejection and disappointment at every turn, until he refuses to give up on his vision, and pours his determination into the script for the 1976 classic Rocky. Thereafter, with a keen eye for storytelling, Peter Farrelly promises to capture the grit and determination that defined Stallone’s rise to fame, in his upcoming biopic.

Ryan Gosling Might be the Prime Candidate for the Role
As the report of ongoing casting hit the internet, in a surprise turn of events, Ryan Gosling emerges as the best-suited candidate for the role of Sylvester Stallone. Gosling certainly doesn’t appear as a baseless choice out of the blue, for the actor has been previously eyed by the legend himself to take on the Rambo mantle.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sylvester Stallone chose Ryan Gosling as the ideal successor for the iconic role of John Rambo. Recounting a dinner encounter with Gosling, when he expressed his deep affinity for the Rambo character, Stallone mentioned being impressed by the actor’s connection to the role and thus choosing him to pass on the baton.
“[Gosling] goes, ‘I was fascinated by Rambo and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo and people would chase me away and I still didn’t stop,’ vacation as Rambo, he just kept saying that he had a lot of affiliation with Rambo… If I ever pass the baton, I’ll pass it on to him because he loves the character.” Stallone remarked.
Certainly, Sylvester Stallone was right about Ryan Gosling being a massive Rambo fan, for even the La La Land actor claimed to be an outspoken Stallone fan. During his interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Gosling admitted watching First Blood as a kid and recalled relating to the character and even acting like Stallone with knives, at school.
“When I was a kid, when I first saw First Blood, it kind of put a spell on me and I thought I was Rambo. I went to school the next day and I put all these knives in my Fisher-Price Houdini kit and I f**king threw them at all these kids at recess, and I got suspended. I didn’t hit any kids and I didn’t hurt anybody, thank god, but my parents were like, ‘You can’t watch violent movies anymore.ʼ”
Therefore, we believe, Gosling might actually do justice to the role, since he has been Stallone’s personal choice for another movie. Meanwhile, as production moves forward, fans eagerly await the announcement of who will lead the upcoming biopic I Play Rocky.
