In a previous interview, Stallone revealed that he would pass on the Rambo role to Gosling. Stallone told Fallon that he once met Gosling at a dinner and found out about his love for the Rambo role. Stallone revealed that he would pass on the baton to him because he loved the character, despite admitting that there would be criticism about his good looks. Stallone shared with The Tonight Show:

“I’ll tell you why [I want Ryan Gosling as Rambo] I met him at a dinner, and obviously we’re opposites. He’s good-looking, I’m not. That’s how it works… You know, this is interesting. If I ever passed the baton, I’ll pass it on to him, because he loves the character. I would say yes, but, I don’t know if anyone would say, Hey, he’s too good-looking to be Rambo.”

Fans were not excited about Stallone’s choice, especially after seeing the Blue Valentine star as Ken in Barbie. They wanted another movie star who had experience handling such rough action roles and excelled in them. This popular choice of fans was the Marvel star, Jake Gyllenhaal. Fans filled X with their comments on how Gosling would be a wrong fit and suggested Gyllenhaal as the better pick for the role. Several fan reactions read:

However, some fans believe that the Crazy, Stupid, Love actor can pull off such versatile roles and has done it before in his career. Previously, Gosling took over another famous action movie from the legendary Harrison Ford and delivered exceptionally well. He played the lead alongside Ford in Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the 1982 film. Gosling was also not lying about his craze about Rambo.

When Ryan Gosling appeared in The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he shared a story about how he crossed the line with his obsession for Rambo movies. Gosling revealed that he was fascinated by the action sequence in Sylvester Stallone’s film and tried to emulate him at school. In an attempt to recreate a scene, the First Man actor took a bunch of steak knives to school and threw them at other kids. This dangerous stunt got him suspended from school. Gosling told Jay Leno:

“When I was a kid, I saw Rambo: First Blood – the movie put a spell on me, and I thought I was Rambo. I even thought my face felt like Sylvester Stallone’s. And I put a bunch of steak knives in my Fisher Price Houdini kit. I took it to school the next day, and I threw them at all the kids at recess. I got suspended, rightfully so, and I’m sorry. I never did anything like that again.”

Gosling further revealed that his parents took away his movie-watching privileges and only allowed him to watch Bible-based movies and National Geographic movies. However, it did not stop his movie journey, and the actor was nominated for the third time at the Oscars this year. Barbie is now available for streaming on Max, while the Rambo film series is available for streaming on Peacock Premium.
