Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder are two of the greatest directors of the time. They have made a name for themselves with their incredible work and have also worked together on the 2013 DC film Man of Steel. Nolan had faith in Snyder’s vision for the Kryptonian superhero and supported him and the project as a producer. He even claimed that the 2013 film was the possible movie version that a character like Superman needs.

And being associated with Man of Steel, the director was also able to draw in some inspiration for his 2014 film Interstellar. During an interview with Daily Beast, the Oscar-nominated director talked about the inspiration he took from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Christopher Nolan Took Inspiration From Man of Steel

The 2014 film Interstellar is set in a dystopian world and follows a team of researchers who are tasked to find a new home for humanity. While the film doesn’t seem too relevant to the 2013 Man of Steel, one of the concepts about the DC superhero inspired Christopher Nolan’s 2014 film in some context.

When asked if setting Interstellar’s story on a farm was inspired by Clark Kent’s upbringing on a farm, he agreed with the fact and said, “It was.” In comics, Clark Kent, aka Superman, grew up on the farm of his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent.

He shared that the concept of the cornfield was already in the script when he came in to direct after Steven Spielberg. The Tenet director shared, “I think the Americana had worked its way in there. I certainly found it very helpful when I realized we were going to have to grow our own corn.”

Zack Snyder Asked For Christopher Nolan’s Approval

After his 2013 film, Zack Snyder was set to direct his next DC film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film was expected to introduce a new Batman, portrayed by Ben Affleck. Considering Christopher Nolan had worked on The Dark Knight trilogy, the Watchmen director felt he needed his approval before introducing a new Batman.

During an interview, he recalled asking Nolan, “You tell me if you don’t want me to do it.” And the Batman Begins director assured him that he was more than okay with his movie. The Rebel Moon director shared that Nolan told him that he did not own these characters. “When you’re done making Batman movies, someone else will [make them],” Zack Snyder recalled.

Interstellar is available to stream on Paramount+.

Man of Steel is available to stream on HBO Manx.
