Singing the song “Your Body is a Wonderland”, the scene was quite humorous and the singing became one of the classic moments from the show. John Mayer, who is the composer of the song was friends with B.J. Novak and thus, Novak had a favor to ask him when they asked whether The Office could use his song.

“He was like, ‘I don’t think so.’ And he actually wrote about this on his blog. He was like, ‘One of my favorite shows on television, “The Office,” wanted to use my song ‘”Your Body is a Wonderland” in a scene for their Christmas episode.’ And he was like, ‘Now, I’m not making apologies for my work, but it’s safe to say I don’t get asked to use “Wonderland” for strongman competitions and documentaries about aircraft carriers.”

The song, which portrays a deep and intense emotion was not supposed to be used for comedy. B.J. Novak, who portrayed the role of Ryan Howard also worked as the writer/director/producer of the series. After some convincing, John Mayer eventually accepted the deal with one condition.
