Scarlett Johansson started her MCU journey as Black Widow with the 2010 film Iron Man 2. It was just the beginning, as she went on to star in multiple Marvel films alongside the huge star cast. The Black Widow sacrificed herself during the events of Avengers: Endgame, and she was last seen as Black Widow in the 2021 standalone film for her Marvel character. She had declared that the 2021 film would be her final Marvel film.

Scarlett Johansson is Not Planning Her MCU Comeback

Scarlett Johansson recently joined Gwyneth Paltrow on The Goop Podcast. The Marvel stars discussed their lives, careers, and their time working together on the 2010 Iron Man sequel. They also talked about if they have a future in the MCU or if they are interested in returning to the franchise.

The Avengers star simply denied such possibilities, saying she is done with her character and film series. She said, “I’m done,” before adding that that chapter of her life is over, as she already did all that she had to do.

“I did all that I had to do. Also coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”

Paltrow, however, shared that she might get a call in the future, as her character, Pepper Potts, is still alive in the franchise. While there could be certain possibilities for the return of the Don Jon star as well, she doesn’t seem to want to return. And one of the reasons behind her desire to stay away from the MCU could also be her feud with Disney involving the 2021 film Black Widow.

Scarlett Johansson’s Feud With Disney

In July 2021, Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company in Los Angeles County Superior Court for breach of contract. The lawsuit was filed after the studio released the film simultaneously in theatres and on Disney+ with Premier Access. The decision was taken by keeping the pandemic in mind, as it would allow the audience to enjoy the film in the safety of their house along with theatres.

The Lucy actress claimed in her lawsuit that Disney compromised the film’s potential box office performance in order to grow its streaming service, Disney+. It also claimed that the studio is trying to avoid paying “very large box office bonuses” that she would have obtained on top of the $20 million she received for the film.

Disney announcing the actress’ pay for the film and calling her insensitive toward consequences that led to their decision were highly criticized. The case was later settled in September 2021 under undisclosed terms.

However, Deadline estimated that the settlement amount could be more than $40 million. After settling down the lawsuit, Johansson said that she is happy to resolve the differences between her and the studio and that she’s looking forward to continuing their work together.

Black Widow (2021) is available to stream on Disney+.
