Hugh Jackman, who has played the character for years, has been featured in the movies with bone claws and CGI claws, along with the real ones. However, the latter ended up causing a bit of issues while filming the movies, as it caused several injuries on the set.

During his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Jackman shared that while filming the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he accidentally cut himself on the inner thigh while filming the scene where he escapes from The Weapon X facility.

“I’ve been experimented on, I’m naked, there’s blood…,” he said before explaining that while filming the scene the assistant director had gathered the female crew to pull off a joke on the actor. After coming out, he tried to cover himself up with his hands, which were equipped with the Wolverine claws at the time. “I did cut myself on the inner thigh,” he said before confirming that he actually meant the inner thigh.

The Makers Adapted a Safer Option For the Production

Hugh Jackman hurting himself with his claws was not the only incident that involved Wolverine’s claws. The actor has shared that he accidentally stabbed the stunt double for Rebecca Romijn, who portrayed Mystique, in the arm.

The Prisoners actor has even said that he has lost count of how many times he has stabbed others or himself while filming with the claws on. To ensure everyone’s safety on the set, the makers took a safer option and continued with CGI claws in the movie.

While the decision was understood considering everyone’s safety on the set, X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been heavily criticized for the cartoon claws. Along with the adamantium claws, fans also raised questions about the bone claws portrayed in the movie. These were later redesigned in the 2013 film The Wolverine to give it sharper angles.
