Ariana DeBose has been a respected actress in the film industry for many years. She has established herself as a true talent in all areas of her profession, being an extremely skilled actress, as well as an exceptional singer. This is proven by her Oscar-win in the category of Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film West Side Story, which is not only a romance film, but a musical. Being as good as she is at what she does, recent events have raised more than a few eyebrows, including her own.
During the recent Critics Choice Awards, Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos were asked to present the award for Best Song, where they made a joke that did not sit very well with audiences and DeBose alike. While everyone was happy that the award was won by Ryan Gosling for his song Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, after the event ended, the actress went onto her social media to voice just how she felt about this joke.
The Critics Choice Awards Made An Untasteful Joke
Recently, Awards shows have been getting a lot of heat for the jokes that they allow and incorporate into their programs. With all the chaos that ensued at the hands of Jo Koy at the 2024 Golden Globe and fans being protective over the celebrities they adore, the patience of the public and stars is wearing thin. The most recent victim of this has become Ariana DeBose, Bella Ramey, and Anthony Ramos.
Very frequently, when celebrities are asked to present awards, they are given pre-prepared lines and jokes to say before they announce the winners of specific categories. This is why fans were very surprised when Ramsey and Ramos went on to call out ‘actors who also think that they are singers’, while they were presenting the award for Best Song. While it was funny at first, with them pointing out Jack Black, brows were raised when DeBose’s name was brought up.
Ariana DeBose Was Not Happy
As soon as her name was called out, Ariana DeBose looked extremely confused at this comment, and there may be many reasons for this. For starters, on top of being an actress, she is a theater actress, having not only starred and won an Oscar for her work in West Side Story, but also having been a part of Hamilton. Another reason could be the fact that Anthony Ramos, who was also saying the joke, starred in the Broadway musical with her.
“No I didn’t find it funny. Lol” said Ariana DeBose
After the event was over, DeBose took to her Instagram account, via PopBase, to express how she felt about this joke set up by the Critics Choice Awards. She mentioned that she did not find this joke funny in any way whatsoever. This sentiment is shared by her fans, who do not understand how something like this can be said about a singer as talented as Ariana DeBose.
