Jamie Foxx is one of the most charming and talented stars in Hollywood. His immense and extraordinarily versatile contribution to the big screen has established him as a beloved and respected figure in the entertainment industry. During his 26-year-old career, the Oscar-winner has bagged numerous award-winning roles and parts in multi-billion franchises, including MCU’s $25.4B worth Spider-Man franchise, where he portrayed the role of the supervillain Electro.
After starring in Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx only agreed to reprise his role in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home because of Amy Pascal, who directed the movie among others in the franchise.
Jamie Foxx Agreed To Be In Spider-Man: No Way Home Because Of Amy Pascal
Foxx’s character Electro was a villain with electric superpowers, who looked to have a blue tint in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). But Jamie Foxx looked differently when he renewed his role in Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). In the Marvel movie, the 55-year-old resembled his comic book counterpart more than his initial look from Andrew Garfield’s film.
Discussing his villainous role in the 2021 movie and explaining how he agreed to reprise his character in No Way Home all because he knew one of the renowned Marvel producers, Amy Pascal, Foxx said,
“I was excited knowing Amy [Pascal] for years, man, and knowing what she’s done with this franchise, and she was explaining to me that it’s gonna be hot, and I didn’t have to be blue, and things like that as far as my character is concerned, so you’re gonna be a little more hip, and that I get a chance to hang out with these incredible thespians.”
Despite being more of a hero-like personality after his role in Django Unchained, Jamie Foxx nailed it portraying the villainous character so much that fans can’t imagine anyone else playing Electro anymore.
Jamie Foxx Loved Being A Villain In Marvel
Jamie Foxx was portrayed as an ordinary person named Max Dillon in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a fan of Spider-Man who gets electrical superpowers after falling into a tank and getting bitten by genetically engineered electric eels. Although his character was initially a good person, he becomes bad only because he doesn’t understand what to do with his newly obtained powers.
Claiming this to be the reason behind his liking and wanting to portray a villainous character in the MCU, Foxx said,
“I love being a villain. What’s great about the villains in Marvel, they didn’t start off being bad. Something happened to them — so it doesn’t come off where they just want to do bad.”
At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield‘s Peter Parker ends up succeeding in turning Jamie Foxx’s character Electro back to normal, unlike when he killed him in The Amazing Spider-Man movie.
