A breakup always stings. In some cases and with some people, it becomes really hard for them to move on from a split from a relationship they invested heavily in. And if the two are big Hollywood stars at the peak of their careers, the constant media attention and fans’ interest in the relationship and then the split always threaten to disturb the mental peace of both parties involved.
It wasn’t easy for action hero Tom Cruise and actress and producer Nicole Kidman to recover from their split all the way back in 2001. The move, announced cryptically by Cruise shortly after their ten-year anniversary, shocked both fans and the industry alike. Neither Cruise nor Kidman lent much reason to the causes of the split initially, although a strong case for the incompatibility between them was made owing to Cruise’s affinity towards the Church of Scientology.
Did Tom Cruise not attend Oscars 2023 because of ex Nicole Kidman’s presence?
Hollywood mega-star Tom Cruise did not attend the 2023 Academy Awards in spite of his movie Top Gun: Maverick (2022)earning several nominations. Some reports claimed Cruise had work engagements which meant the star couldn’t attend the Oscars. Recently, some sources have revealed another reason which might have kept Cruise away from the red carpet.
“[Tom Cruise] was not there because she [Nicole Kidman] was there, and he did not want a run-in,” a source told The Daily Mail.
Nicole Kidman is currently married to and has children with Australian-American musician Keith Urban.

The source’s comments make one wonder about Cruise and Kidman’s relationship post the split, which has been far from amicable as it is. Cruise had banned Kidman from their son Connor Anthony’s wedding in 2021, notably after the Church of Scientology called her a ‘suppressive person’.
“First, Tom would never even consider inviting Nicole to Connor’s wedding because she’s considered a ‘suppressive person’ by the church — and, second, he doesn’t want her there. Tom turned his back on Nicole a long time ago and he’s never looked back,” a source had revealed.
The two are evidently not on speaking terms, although they have never publicly bashed each other in front of the media.
Nicole Kidman found love again in Keith Urban
Australian-American actress Nicole Kidman hadn’t been able to take the divorce from Tom Cruise in her stride. She had refused to let the split make her ‘bitter’, and went on the record to say that she “still completely [believed] in love, and [she remained] open to anything that will happen to [her].” In 2012, over a decade after the split, she spoke about how she felt back then.
“I thought our life together was perfect. It took me a very long time to heal. It was a shock to my system,” the actress had said.
Kidman also went on to talk about how she felt lonely after winning Best Actress at the Oscars 2002.

After making history by being the first Australian to win the Best Actress Oscar, Kidman said,
“I realized I didn’t want to be alone… I wanted to fall in love again, but I wasn’t sure I could.,”
She then went on to marry Keith Urban in June 2006, and it seems like she has found her true love after all. In reference to falling for Urban, she said,
“I’m a big believer in the power of love, and it wasn’t that I’d given up hope, I was just… asleep. But now I feel like I’ve woken up again. Rather than living through characters, I’ve learned to be myself.”
One cannot help but adore Kidman’s progress and growth as a person from her failed relationship to a new one in which she is so unadulteratedly happy.
