Jodie Turner-Smith has officially confirmed that she will be joining the cast of the popular Netflix series Sex Education for its upcoming fourth season. The announcement was made by the actor herself on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards in London.
An Invitation From Ncuti Gatwa: Jodie Turner-Smith Joins Sex Education Fourth Season
According to Jodie Turner-Smith, it was Ncuti Gatwa, who plays the character of Eric Effiong on the show, who convinced her to join the cast. She expressed her excitement to work with Gatwa, who is her favorite character on the show. The actor revealed that Gatwa personally called her and asked her to join the show, and she agreed to take the role even before discussing the payment. She said,
“You may or may not see me in a little Netflix show called Sex Education. First of all, all my scenes were with Ncuti Gatwa who – I DIE for him – and he’s my favorite character on the show. So when he called me and asked me to do it I was like, I don’t care how much they’re paying I’m doing.”
Aside from Turner-Smith, the fourth season of Sex Education will introduce a host of new characters, including Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy, Thaddea Graham, Marie Reuther, Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, and Imani Yahshua. These new characters are expected to bring fresh storylines and add a new dynamic to the show.
Goodbye to Moordale High: Emma Mackey Departs Sex Education
Fans of the show were worried about the future of Ncuti Gatwa’s character after he was cast as Doctor Who in the popular BBC sci-fi series and scored a role in Margot Robbie’s upcoming Barbie film.
However, the actor confirmed that he will be returning for the fourth season of Sex Education. Unfortunately, Simone Ashley (Olivia), Tanya Reynolds (Lily), Patricia Allison (Ola), and Rakhee Thakrar (school teacher Emily Sands) will not be returning for the upcoming season.

Emma Mackey on the other hand will say goodbye to Sex Education after four seasons. At the BAFTA Awards, where she won the Rising Star Award, the Netflix star announced that she was leaving the series and will not be a part of a possible fifth season.
Mackey had previously announced that he would be stepping down in Season 4 and her character would reportedly not be as widely cast. She told RadioTimes,
“Season 5? I just got my fourth last week! No, I don’t think it’s in Season 5. I said goodbye to Maeve.”
Sex Education has been praised for its approach to sexual education and exploration, as well as its diverse and relatable characters. With the addition of Jodie Turner-Smith and Dan Levy to the cast, the show is expected to continue to address important issues in a lighthearted and entertaining manner.
