Recently, Jake Gyllenhaal sat on an interview with host Sian Welby on This Morning (via Independent) and discussed the arduous process he had to go through for Road House.

The Love & Other Drugs fame explained that in a particular scene from Road House, where he is seen taking a plate of tacos, the scene immediately cuts to black. He added that he was on a strict regime, and even “one chip” would have destroyed it all.

“If you really look. I don’t eat tacos. You see me take the plate and I say thank you and then the scene cuts you never actually see me take a mouthful. I was on a strict regimen, one chip would have done the whole thing.”

Earlier, Jake Gyllenhaal shared with Men’s Health that the diet plan played a massive part in his transformation. It was equally important and painful as the workout regime needed the actor to sacrifice sweets for the role. Although the actor had to give up a lot for the role, he never skipped any meals.

“In this case, there were things that were taken away, but I had a hell of a lot more calories that I could consume.”

The team behind the Doug Liman directorial was so passionate that Gyllenhaal’s trainer Jason Walsh and his associates formulated a new plant-based formula to drink. The actor had some issues digesting whey protein supplements, and therefore, Walsh’s formula also contributed a lot to the 43-year-old’s physique.

What was it like for Jake Gyllenhaal to work with Conor McGregor?

The latest Road House remake is also iconic for being the movie debut of real-life UFC legend, Conor McGregor. The Donnie Darko star admitted that UFC fighters have brutal skills and reflexes. He was terrified while faking fights against McGregor.

“I was like this is really cool but I was also just totally terrified. I was teaching professional fighters, who could really kick my a**, how to kick my a** so that people really buy it. Their ability to judge distance is unlike anyone else to be working with someone who can do that, there’s a safety to that too.”

Jake Gyllenhaal went to extreme lengths to prepare for his Road House role. He religiously worked under trainer Jason Walsh to bring down his weight from 205 pounds to 184 pounds and shred down to 5% body fat. Walsh was filled with praise for the actor and made it clear that even a good team and the best trainer can’t succeed if “you don’t have the right person to do it all.”

The Mysterio actor’s brutal workout routine included Mobility Drills, Proteus Motion Machine, Isometrics, Heavy Sled, Safety Bar Squat, Forearm Drills, Offset Loaded Bag Drills, Floor Press, Chain Pushup, Suspension Trainer Push-Pull, Push-Pull Rips, and Climber Sprints. Vertical Climber also proved to be an important component in the process.
