As someone who has explored the depths of politics from the governor’s chair and flourished as well, the Hollywood action icon has come to value the prospect of change. But if there’s one thing that The Terminator star loathes, it’s when people end up being all bark and no show.

‘Feelings’ Frustrate Arnold Schwarzenegger

From an abusive childhood to a glowing career in multiple professions, including acting and politics, Arnold Schwarzenegger has witnessed some of the most jarring highs and lows in life. Even at the age of 75, the retired professional bodybuilder continues to strive toward becoming the best version of himself. But the path to success isn’t devoid of plights, and Schwarzenegger is no stranger to the challenge of “discomfort,” something which he believes is crucial for one to thrive in life.

In a recent interview with THR, the former governor of California admitted that he’s become completely blasé about the concept of “feelings.” He doesn’t get why people keep fussing about it so much and neither does he appreciate it because, at the end of the day, actions speak louder than words.

“Everyone is talking about their feelings. That’s OK if that’s how you want to occupy yourself. How I feel is irrelevant,” he said. “I don’t give a f*ck how I feel. What I care about is – What can I do to make it better?”

Sure, there are days when even someone as accomplished as Schwarzenegger feels blue and low in spirits, but all it takes is a bike ride or spending time with his pets to brighten his mood.

Most importantly, Schwarzenegger, remarked, America is a byproduct of the relentless hard work and cosmic dedication of its citizens; its foundation is propped up on the blood, sweat, and tears of people who’re devoted to making it a better country, not on “feeling good.”

“This country was not built by people feeling good. This country was built by people working their a*ses off. We have to work our a*s off and stop worrying about feelings. Just swallow it. If you feel shitty, don’t think, just do things.”

The Former Governor of California – People Should Have A “Mission”

Frittering away time by attaching too much importance to “feelings” isn’t the only thing that the Commando star discourages. What Schwarzenegger also holds a strong distaste for is the lack of purpose; “It’s also important to have a mission,” the actor pointed out. “If you have a mission, it’s so much fun.”

The Twins star firmly believes that “having a mission” is essential to a healthy mindset because you know what they say, an empty mind is the devil’s workshop.

“If you wake up [uncertain], ‘What am I going to do today?’ That’s bad news. Because then the mind starts wandering and you never know where it will take you.”

As long as you have something to look forward to and to-do lists to tick off though, you’ll be fine. “If you’re thinking, ‘I have to do this, so let’s get going …” Then you accomplish things,” he stated.
