George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney have made it clear that they prioritize parenting above all else. The couple, who got married in September 2014, welcomed twins, Ella and Alexander, in June 2017. With homes in Los Angeles, England, and Italy, the couple appears financially secure enough to take some time off work and be more hands-on parents.
Clooney was last seen reprising his Batman role in a cameo appearance in the box-office disappointment, The Flash. The Ocean’s Eleven actor is once again sharing the screen with Brad Pitt in the upcoming movie, Wolves. However, George Clooney’s presence on screen has reduced considerably in the last few years.
George Clooney Has Become More Selective With His Projects
During an interview with The Guardian, George Clooney clarified that he no longer cares about money. Clooney wants to live life on his terms with his wife and twins rather than continually working to live. The American actor revealed that he now chooses only projects that give him complete satisfaction.
The Gravity actor further shared that he turned down a $35 million single payday deal, after much discussion with his wife. Clooney explained his thought process while rejecting the deal, stating, “Well, if it takes a minute’s sleep away from me, it’s not worth it.” Further, The Descendants actor also commented on the availability of great roles in films. Clooney told The Guardian:
“In general, there just aren’t that many great parts — and, look, I don’t HAVE to act. My wife and I had this conversation when I turned 60 this summer. I said, ‘I can still bounce around pretty good, and we both love what we do. But we gotta make sure we don’t book ourselves silly.’ So part of it is just us making sure we live our lives.”
George Clooney sports the director’s hat from time to time, with his last film, The Tender Bar, starring another Batman actor, Ben Affleck. Clooney is also working on his upcoming biographical sports drama, The Boys in the Boat.
George Clooney Uses His Ability To Pick And Choose Roles To Design His Family Life
Apart from acting and directing, George Clooney is also involved in political activism. The Syriana actor, along with his wife Amal Clooney, has founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which aims to protect human rights worldwide. Clooney also runs the Not On Our Watch Project along with his Ocean’s trilogy co-stars, which aims to prevent mass atrocities through awareness campaigns. But this does not mean that the Solaris actor is busy all the time.
During his appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Clooney shared the importance of managing his time to pursue a happy life with his wife and kids. Clooney elaborated on the WTF podcast:
“We’re working a lot, both of us. She’s working a tremendous amount as well. I just said, it doesn’t mean we don’t do a job because we gotta do a job. If you don’t have a job, you’re dead. We also have to make sure we’re spending less time behind a computer or going on locations. Sixty is a number but I’ve done all the physicals, knock on wood, in good shape. I feel healthy. Sixty, you can kind of beat the devil a little bit, 80 you can’t and that’s 20 years from now. Twenty years happens in a flash, and faster as you get older.”
Clooney also revealed that his twins have nannies for only four days a week. It appears that the twins are getting ample time to spend with their successful movie star dad and barrister mom, more than most kids with working parents.
