It might seem like a distant memory but Two and a Half Men was once television’s biggest sitcom. For eight seasons, Charlie Sheen led the sitcom with co-star Jon Cryer, scaling new viewership records. However, after Sheen’s very public falling out with producer Chuck Lorre he was fired from the series.
Years later, there have been whispers of a Two and a Half Men reboot with Sheen expressing a desire to reprise his iconic role. However, in a recent interview, Jon Cryer stated that he was against returning for more of the classic sitcom. Cryer’s feelings for the series seem to have soured over the years and it seems his on-screen brother, Charlie Sheen, is the reason for the same. Here is what Cryer said about a potential Two and a Half Men reboot.
Jon Cryer Does Not Want to Join Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men Reboot
Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer starred as brothers Charlie and Alan Harper in the hit CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. However, after eight seasons, Sheen was fired from the sitcom in 2011 with Ashton Kutcher cast as his replacement.
At the time, Sheen also had a falling out with producer Chuck Lorre. However, Sheen and Lorre recently teamed up for the latter’s Max comedy series Bookie. Meanwhile, Cryer recently appeared on an episode of The View, where he was quizzed about Sheen and Lorre’s reconciliation.
Cryer stated that he was happy that Lorre and Sheen had reconciled but partially blamed Sheen for the show falling apart. Cryer stated that had not spoken to Sheen in years but was glad his former co-star had overcome his addiction issues.
Cryer also addressed the possibility of a Two and a Half Men reboot by stating Sheen blew up the show despite being the highest-paid actor.
“And yet he blew it up. So you kinda have to think, I love him, I wish him the best, and that he should live in good health the rest of his life, but I don’t know if I want to get in business with him for any length of time.”
Thus, Cryer cast doubts on returning for a reboot but the actor did hint at the possibility of making a one-off reunion special. Nonetheless, given Sheen’s past, it seems Cryer is weary of getting back in business with his former co-star.
Two and a Half Men Reboot Unlikely Despite Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre Making Up
Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre moved past their differences by reuniting for the Max comedy series Bookie. An episode of the series features Sheen alongside Two and a Half Men co-star Angus T. Jones. Thus, speculation regarding a potential reboot of the classic sitcom became rife.
In an interview with Variety, Lorre spoke about the possibility of a reboot now that he and Sheen had reconciled.
“I don’t think so. Not that I’m aware of. It’s foolish to say never. It’s still to me more gratifying and fun to do new stuff. And to let let the stuff we did in the past be the past.”
Lorre made the above statement denying any immediate possibility of a Two and a Half Men reboot. The producer was mostly grateful to work with Sheen and Jones again and wanted to leave the past in the past. Moreover, Cryer’s recent unwillingness to reprise his role in any sort of a revival of the sitcom also strongly suggests that a Two and a Half Men reboot won’t be happening anytime soon.
Two and a Half Men is streaming on Peacock.
