As the WrestleMania weekend rolls on forward, some of the most anticipated match-ups and WWE gold that was on the line have taken place, and the results of the first night are pouring in with both triumphant victories and disappointing defeats.
But one victory, in particular, has got the fans cheering at the top of their lungs, while experts in the pro wrestling sport have been stunned silent, which was the match between Sami Zayn and The Ring General Gunther.
On Saturday, both these superstars entered the ring with the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line, and by the end, Zayn emerged victorious, holding the belt above his head. This decision, though being adored by fans, is being questioned by experts. More specifically, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier cannot seem to digest this result.
Former UFC Champion Daniel Cormier Feels Sami Zayn Winning At WrestleMania 40 Wasn’t the Right Call
The WrestleMania XL Weekend that the entire globe had been waiting for wasn’t one that disappointed the WWE Universe on the first day, but according to a hefty chunk of the audience and critics, the match for the Intercontinental Championship certainly did.
This was the match that was against The Underdog Sami Zayn and the current Intercontinental Champion Gunther, where Zayn scored the victory against The Ring General in an all-out battle, ending his streak of the title reign of 665 days as champion.
But despite emotions running high and the fans cheering him on from the edge of their seats, there are still a large number of people who feel like this was an upsetting victory for the WWE. Putting a substantial emphasis on this is none other than former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier, who has also expressed his displeasure with this result.
Damn what a match, I don’t know if Sami was the guy to end Gunther reign! #WrestleMANia

Many of the audience called this result hard to swallow as many felt that this was Chad Gable’s moment to score WWE gold, while others felt like Zayn wasn’t the best choice when it came to the well-being of the business in the long run.
Alas, the result is what it is, and going forward, it will be interesting to see what Zayn accomplishes with his title reign on Monday Night RAW.
