Yet Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes is among the few actors who would gladly let go of such a chance, even if an offer is presented to them. The actress in her tell-all memoir, Oh Miriam,  revealed how she had turned down a Marvel project.

Elaborating upon it, Margolyes, in an interview with News.com.au, stated,

“They contacted me and said, ‘we’re doing a story about witches’. I thought, ‘oh god, not witches again, because I’ve done that with Harry Potter’.”

Since the said Marvel project was about witches, it means Marvel probably offered her a role in the upcoming series, Agatha.

“I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months. So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds ($1.27 million) and they said, ‘you can have half a million’, and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it’, so it just stopped.”

Revealed Margolyes while talking to the site. While she joked about how her own greed made her not take the offer, many fans seemed pretty disappointed over her revelation. While some called her out over it, others called it a boss move (via X).

“I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now. You know, it was 25 years ago and it’s for children. I think it’s for children. But they get stuck in it. I do cameos and people say, ‘I’m having a Harry Potter-themed wedding,’ and I think, gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be? I can’t even think about it. Harry Potter is wonderful, I’m very grateful to it. It’s over. That’s what I think.”

Despite the criticism Margolyes has been receiving for this statement, she, too, as the right to have her own opinions about popular franchises like the Harry Potter world.

While it is true that the franchise is primarily intended for children, there is no denying the many powerful and useful real-world lessons that the universe has to offer have become the reason why it is still relevant and loved by fans of all ages.

Marvel’s Agatha will be released in late 2024 on Disney+, and the entire Harry Potter franchise can be streamed in Max.
