Harrison Ford Didn’t Think Raiders of the Lost Ark Would Work

Prior to its premiere, the first Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, faced skepticism from many who doubted its potential for success. However, it has since cemented its status as a timeless classic in the eyes of audiences worldwide. But turns out, the lead of the movie, Harrison Ford had the same exact thought as well, which was reflected in a recent promotional interview. The actor said,

“I don’t remember what people thought. I do remember what I thought,–I remember that there was that pleasure. There was pleasure. There was laughter, there was popcorn being sold and people were happy and families were going. I was very excited.”

During a behind-the-scenes of the Indiana Jones documentary, George Lucas, the creator of the story, revealed that Raiders of the Lost Ark faced significant obstacles in securing financing, because people thought it was too ambitious, and thus were scared to fund the film. This might be the fact, Harrison Ford was referencing while delivering the above quote. The film eventually did prove everyone wrong by earning a whopping $212.2 million, on a budget of $20 million. Raiders of the Lost Ark was a box-office success and a certified hit.

Although the team started its journey with humble beginnings, the success of the first film propelled the franchise to greater heights, that is unimaginable. Since then, the production value of the movies has significantly skyrocketed giving the creators more prospects to play with various ideas. Now that Harrison Ford will grace the theatres as Indiana Jones for the last time, he is excited for the fans to see the movie. Recently, while speaking with ComicBooks.com, the actor explained how he was de-aged for the film, he excitedly explained,

“That is my actual face. At that age,—They have this artificial intelligence program. It can go through every foot of film Lucasfilm owns, because I did a bunch of movies for them. They have all this footage, including film that wasn’t printed –They could mine it from where the light is coming from, the expression. But that’s my actual face. I put little dots on my face and I say the words and they make it. It’s fantastic.”

Ultimately, while bidding farewell to Indiana Jones may evoke a tinge of sadness, the actor’s genuine excitement to portray the character again for the final time on the big screen is what makes the moment bittersweet.
