2016 took the world by surprise when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt announced their split after two years of marriage and 12 years of a grand Hollywood romance prior to that. What began on the sets of Mr. & Mrs. Smith soon turned bitter and sour after reports of abuse surfaced in the aftermath of the divorce which Jolie had filed for, citing irreconcilable differences. Now, 6 and a half years down the line, the world is preparing for yet another blockbuster Jolie comeback in the leading role of a high-octane action film beside Halle Berry in Maude v Maude.

Angelina Jolie Prepares For Her Second Act in Hollywood

Building a career on the back of action movies, Angelina Jolie has hardly ever known to shy away into the soft recesses of a romantic comedy for a change. She would rather saunter around as a gun-toting assassin-for-hire than commit to wooing the audience with her wit and charm. Over the years, picking up tricks of the trade came naturally to the actress, considering the time she devoted to starring in films like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Wanted, and Salt.

Speaking about her incredulous filmography and if she gets to do her own stunts, Jolie claimed:

Either I don’t scare easy or when I’m working Im in a different headspace. You’re so lucky as an actor. Even if you’re doing a big crazy stunt and you’re on top of a truck on a freeway doing your thing, you have your rig, it’s been tested, so you get to be pretty brave and have a lot of people looking after you.

Although Angelina Jolie has barely ever retired from Hollywood, her shockingly minimalistic absence from the film industry – compared to the actress’s wild, haze-inducing peak era from the 90s and Aughts – is a tragedy. The actress’s critically-blessed reign that comprised films like Girl, Interrupted, Gia, and the entirety of the 00s looks to be lost momentum after Jolie’s much more subdued reign in the last decade. With Eternals and Maude v Maude, Jolie has been reprising bits from her glory days as she launches her second act in Hollywood.

Maude v Maude Pits Angelina Jolie Against Halle Berry

After a lackluster performance in Taylor Sheridan’s Those Who Wish Me Dead and a brief glimpse of her former grandeur and goddess-like on-screen presence as Thena in Marvel’s Eternals, Angelina Jolie is all set for her glorious return in the lead role of an action film that sounds terribly like a female remake/rip-off of Mr. & Mrs. Smith – sans the wedded suburban romance or the exciting likelihood of witnessing Jolie-Berry era for the next decade or so.

The film, Maude v Maude, brings together for the very first time an iconic pairing with Angelina Jolie (Lara Croft) and Halle Berry (Catwoman) set to lead, which makes the audience fume at Hollywood for unforgivably failing to produce the pair in a film before. Although indicative of yet another action-overridden script, the project also holds the potential to thrill and surprise, even more than what the duo already brings to the table with their combined star power in the film.

Produced by Warner Bros., penned by Scott Mosier (director of the critically acclaimed 2018 hit, The Grinch), and set to be directed by Roseanne Liang, Maude v Maude will star the action duo as spies pitted against each other. A release/production date has not yet been announced.
