Well, although several MCU movies are failing and aren’t essentially “what they used to be” people are stating that it is because the MCU movies have become “too woke”. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger recently broke the silence on the issue as his comment became viral on X (formerly Twitter).

“[People] want to be entertained, and sometimes they can’t be turned off by certain things. And we just have to be more sensitive to the interest of a broad audience. It’s not easy, you know, so that he can’t please everybody all the time” Bob Iger said (via THR)

He further continued,

“The term ‘woke’ is thrown around rather liberally, no pun intended in that regard. I think a lot of people don’t even understand really what it means.”

And with these comments becoming viral on Twitter, people didn’t hold back when talking and debating on how much is “too much woke”. Suffice it to say, the comments are not pretty!

It does seem that “woke” is a relativistic term and might be different for different people. But something that we know for sure is that “being woke” is roughly defined as being “alert to racial prejudice and discrimination” (with LGBTQ+ rights and s*xism added later on in the 2010s).

Although this is a very blurred definition, people took to X (formerly Twitter) and talked about whether Bob Iger’s statements were right or not.

People are also not wrong since several Disney movies have been criticized and targeted for adding controversial scenes in a kid’s film in the name of being woke. Well, it seems that Bob Iger may need some time to get out of the puddle. Although “being woke” is a relativistic term, it might be true that Marvel Studios could hear the audience after all and work their way towards giving the audience what they want! But until anything gets confirmed or denied, these all remain speculations and suggestive rumors.
