Ever since Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man snapped and erased Thanos and his army from existence, things have been going somewhat downhill for the MCU. Although series like WandaVision and Loki kept it popular, Marvel seemed to have lost its charm.
In recent movies, the MCU films have received backlash for being “too woke”. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger finally broke the silence on the criticism and answered that a lot of people do not even understand what being woke means!
Disney’s CEO Bob Iger Breaks Silence On Marvel-Woke Allegations!
Disney has had its fair share of controversial days. From changing CEOs to allegations of being too woke, the studio giant has indeed been through a lot. With the recent failure of Marvel movies, Bob Iger has been blamed for it alongside Marvel Studios.
Well, although several MCU movies are failing and aren’t essentially “what they used to be” people are stating that it is because the MCU movies have become “too woke”. Disney’s CEO Bob Iger recently broke the silence on the issue as his comment became viral on X (formerly Twitter).
“[People] want to be entertained, and sometimes they can’t be turned off by certain things. And we just have to be more sensitive to the interest of a broad audience. It’s not easy, you know, so that he can’t please everybody all the time” Bob Iger said (via THR)
He further continued,
“The term ‘woke’ is thrown around rather liberally, no pun intended in that regard. I think a lot of people don’t even understand really what it means.”
And with these comments becoming viral on Twitter, people didn’t hold back when talking and debating on how much is “too much woke”. Suffice it to say, the comments are not pretty!
People Talked About What Being “Too Much Woke” Means!
It does seem that “woke” is a relativistic term and might be different for different people. But something that we know for sure is that “being woke” is roughly defined as being “alert to racial prejudice and discrimination” (with LGBTQ+ rights and s*xism added later on in the 2010s).
Although this is a very blurred definition, people took to X (formerly Twitter) and talked about whether Bob Iger’s statements were right or not.
I hate say it but he’s kinda right.

We mean you made movies suck because your creative choices weren't story driven
You didn't say, I've got a great story about this wonderful black girl
You said I better put a black girl in this story

People are also not wrong since several Disney movies have been criticized and targeted for adding controversial scenes in a kid’s film in the name of being woke. Well, it seems that Bob Iger may need some time to get out of the puddle. Although “being woke” is a relativistic term, it might be true that Marvel Studios could hear the audience after all and work their way towards giving the audience what they want! But until anything gets confirmed or denied, these all remain speculations and suggestive rumors.
