The report that disclosed this update has also revealed that Zendaya, who plays MJ in the movies, will also return alongside Holland. Whether Lin is the definitive choice for helming the future installment remains uncertain. However, this would mark the first time Jon Watts wouldn’t be spearheading an MCU film about the friendly neighborhood superhero.

A report by well-known entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider (via The InSneider) has mentioned Justin Lin as one of the directors being eyed to helm Spider-Man 4. Previous rumors and scoops (via Game Rant) suggested Jon Watts wouldn’t be returning for the web-crawler’s future in the MCU. However, earlier, Daredevil‘s Drew Goddard was being pushed forward as a likely replacement. Lin’s name surfacing now seems to have shaken things up.

Lin is renowned in the industry for having helmed several Fast & Furious titles, starting from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. According to The Numbers, the 52-year-old director’s films have grossed above $3 billion at the worldwide box office. Although his inclusion isn’t officially confirmed or concrete, it would signify a wild change in MCU’s Spider-Man film series.

The exclusive report by Sneider also mentioned that Spider-Man 4 is looking to commence filming in September or October. Zendaya’s commitment to the franchise has apparently led to the delay in Euphoria Season 3.

Holland previously expressed his thoughts about the possibility of a follow-up movie to No Way Home, claiming that he wouldn’t return for the sake of returning since he wishes to preserve the legacy of the revered IP. He asserted that discussions have occurred about the character’s potential “fourth rendition” and that the goal is to do justice to the superhero (via Collider).

With rumors surrounding a fourth Spider-Man film gaining traction, Marvel Studios may have discovered a worthy enough continuation to pursue. But that’s just conjecture, and there’s no harm in taking these reports with a grain of salt.

Fans are unsure how to take the news of Lin’s involvement as a likely candidate for Spider-Man 4. While the filmmaker’s repertoire of helming grand-scale commercial efforts shows promise, MCU enthusiasts are concerned about the Fast & Furious influences that may seep into the future installment of Holland’s web-slinger.

However, that could be an unfounded fear, given that directorial styles can change to fit a given project. Not all are worried, though. A few have expressed a positive outlook on Lin’s alleged association with the franchise. They think the filmmaker can live up to fans’ expectations in elevating the excitement surrounding the fourth film.

People have mixed feelings on the matter, and understandably so. However, since not much is confirmed, fans may have to wait it out to see whether or not Lin indeed takes the director’s chair for Spider-Man 4. With him being one name in the running, there’s a possibility some other personality can snag the opportunity. It’s too early to tell.

Nevertheless, whatever Marvel Studios has planned for the upcoming installment, one can only hope it abides by Holland’s wishes (which many fans have echoed) and honors the legacy of the character that audiences have come to love over the decades.
