Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was the recent addition to one of the most beloved superhero series in recent times. Not only did it manage to maintain the hype of the first film, it also outdid it perfectly, not only setting up iconic characters for the next film but also telling an excellent story in a visually stunning manner.

Many would call the Spider-Verse series a perfect franchise and one of the biggest reasons for this is its directors and animators. It is quite a well-known fact in the film industry at this point that being a VFX artist is not easy. Marvel has gained a reputation for overworking these employees to an extreme degree and it would seem that they are not alone in this.

During an interview for the promotion of the 2023 film, the directors talked about how stressful the process of making the second Spider-Verse film was.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Was Exhausting For The Directors

During the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versethe directors of the film, Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, gave an interview with Collider. Here they spoke on various subjects surrounding the highly-anticipated film. When asked about what they could tell the world about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, it would seem that Dos Santos had an answer ready.

“We are in the process of being so thankful that we survived making this one, that’s where we’re at.” said Dos Santos.

He started by joking that those who were involved in the film were simply happy to have survived making it in the first place, let alone thinking about the third part of the movie series. It is safe to say that the making of the Oscar Isaac film would have required an ample amount of effort from everyone and would have exhausted them to their very core.

A Break Was A Requirement

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson then went on to talk about the transition from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. These two films have become closely linked in the eyes of the fans as the moment the climax begins to build in the second Spider-Verse film, it ends, to be continued in the movie that will follow.

Such a cliffhanger has made the fans turn to the creators of the film with questions about when the next movie will come out. During the interview, Powers spoke on this, revealing that when they were done making the second film, they had their priorities straight.

“I mean, obviously, when we conceptualized it, we broke the story for both of these films, but obviously, this came down to the wire, and I think the immediate priority is to get a little bit of a break for folks.” said Powers

They did not focus on getting the next film out as soon as possible, wanting to give their cast and crew a break first. There have been no reports that Marvel Studios follows a similar practice.
