The DCEU has been undergoing a major change over the past several months, especially after James Gunn decided to take over things. This is largely due to the fact that the new and revamped DCU is a reboot of the whole universe.
That being said, there is one particular movie that is part of both the old universe and yet, part of the revamped one too. The movie is titled Blue Beetle, which was handled by James Gunn. Interestingly enough, the film managed to beat a very popular Marvel movie when it came to a streaming record recently.
Blue Beetle Couldn’t Break The DCEU Dry Spell
Blue Beetle was released back on 18 August this year in the USA and fans expected the film to somehow end DCEU’s dry spell, as the DCEU had failed to produce a hit film in ages. After all, the likes of Black Adam, Shazam 2, and even The Flash all failed at the Box Office.
According to Box Office Mojo, Blue Beetle has earned a little over $129 million over its run in theaters. The film needed $208 million to break even, so it was yet another loss for DC. It also had the second-lowest opening for a DCEU film, with Wonder Woman 1984 having a lower opening. It did get better reviews than expected, but none of that really matters as it was still a failure at the Box Office.
Blue Beetle Actually Beat Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse In An Unexpected Way
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is undoubtedly one of the best films to come out this year, as it received universal praise from fans and critics alike. After all, it surpassed its prequel Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in every single way – something that no one ever thought was possible. Therefore, its influence in the realm of animated films cannot be denied.
According to The Wrap, it was reported that Blue Beetle became the #1 most-streamed film in the USA during the weekend, November 17-19, on Whip Media’s Movie Ranker. While it claimed the top spot, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was ranked #9 on the list – something that no one expected whatsoever.

Blue Beetle seems to have made a resurgence on the streaming apps, which is definitely a good thing. However, that will do nothing to help DC in the long run. Regardless, it remains to be seen whether a sequel to Blue Beetle will ever be made.
