If there are cinematic series and franchises that have stood the test of time and made their permanent home in the memories of the fans, one of the most successful among them has to be the Ghostbusters franchise.
Stars of the series like Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson truly have performances that will be remembered for generations to come in the films from the past.
Thus, to remember and commemorate the legacy of the original series, Aykroyd, Murray, and Hudson reprised their roles from the original in the latest Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
In the most recent interview, when Hudson was asked to weigh in on what he thought about the failed 2016 reboot of the series, he claimed that they should’ve made a different film altogether if there were to be no connection or resemblance to the original characters.
Ernie Husdon Claims 2016’s Ghostbusters Reboot Missed The Mark With No Connection To Original Characters
While there was a pretty valiant attempt to revive the iconic Ghostbusters franchise in 2016 with the same name, the problem here was that the original stars like Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson are what made the film so beloved through their characters.
And to swap them for an entire female-led cast with no connection to the original works led to the project’s downfall, something that fans online made them learn the hard way.
Thus, with his return to his original character of Winston Zeddmore in the recently released Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the OZ star commented on how the disconnect from the original series led to Paul Feig’s first reboot failure. In a recent interview with The Independent, he said:
“Fans were really invested in the story and the characters and I think it was disappointing, I enjoyed the movie but I think it wasn’t what fans were hoping for. Look, I’m a fan of Paul Feig so I have nothing negative about him to say, other than I don’t quite understand why you do a reboot, you know what I mean? Just make another movie.”
Thus, while filmmaker Jason Reitman made the right call and connected the story of the original stars with his 2019 Ghostbusters: Afterlife with Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard, the exclusion of these stars from the screen still managed to cause public outrage, which was fixed in the most recent film.
What Is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire About?
As the franchise returns to its roots with the recently released Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the stakes to save the world have risen even higher.
As the Spengler family returns to New York City and takes residence in the iconic NYC firehouse funded by Winston Zeddman, one of their chases disrupts the entire city and brings it to a standstill, which causes the Mayor to take action. But at the same time, an ancient relic activates and unleashes an ancient evil upon the modern world.
Now, with the help of the OG Ghostbusters team, the group has to stop this new threat that seeks to bring forth a second Ice Age.
