Arnold Schwarzenegger has crossed several barriers to become one of the finest men in Hollywood: in terms of acting, physique, success, and even intelligence. Not only has he proven to be a successful actor, but he is also an incredible bodybuilder and a clever leader as well. Yet, throughout his remarkable $450 million journey, the actor still has one thing that he desperately wants his fans to forget.
This thing that Schwarzenegger wants his fans from around the globe to forget is calling him a ‘self-made’ man or the ‘perfect description’ of the same. The reason behind this is that he believes that no one can do everything just by themselves and that everyone needs help at some point in time.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Hates Being Called A ‘Self-Made’ Man
While talking about his recently released book Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life, Arnold Schwarzenegger shared in an interview with BBC News how much he hates being called a ‘self-made man’ by fans, or even the ‘perfect description’ of the same.
“We need a combination of helping ourselves, but also to get help from the outside. I always hate when people say to me, ‘You are the perfect description of a self-made man.’ I hate that,” he repeated a little more forcefully. “I don’t want anyone to think that they can do it themselves. We all need help.”
He then shared the long list of people whom he feels indebted to for their help and inspiration which ultimately led him to the position he currently stands at. This ranged from Reg Park, the bodybuilder from the 1960s’ Hercules movies to the “5.8 million people who voted for [him]” for the post of the Republican governor of California. Continuing, he said:
“I explain in the book that we should all reach out for help and as soon as you have realized that, then you also recognize the fact that you have also got to help other people.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger Never Wanted To Become A Motivational Personality
Continuing in the interview, Arnold Schwarzenegger then revealed more details related to his book, all the while sharing how he never even dreamt of becoming the motivational speaker he is today.
“The idea behind it is just for people to become more successful,” he clarifies. “It was one of those things I never dreamed of, to be a motivational speaker, or to write motivational books, because when I grew up all I wished was just to be the most muscular man in the world, and to get into movies and to make millions of dollars.”
However, after some spectacular box office hits for over two decades including Conan the Barbarian, Twins, and True Lies, Schwarzenegger suddenly found himself having “new dreams” and “new goals” before concluding:
“People really needed to be motivated and were looking to me for answers. They admired what I had accomplished, and I saw there an opening and a need and that’s how this book came about.”
Thus, for all those people who looked at him with admiration and wanted to learn more from his incredible $450 million journey, Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote the masterpiece titled, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life.
