However, the 48-year-old actor became a household name with his role as Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix original Stranger Things. He has been playing the character since the premiere of its first season in 2016. David Harbour Wants Fans to Move on From Jim Hopper

Making his debut as Jim Hopper in the first season of Stranger Things, David Harbour reprised his character in the following three seasons of the show. Followed by the fourth season of the popular series, he is also set to star in the next and potentially the final season of the Netflix original.

While he claims that he loves the show and his role as Jim Hopper, he has slowly grown tired of being known only for his on-screen character. During a recent interview with Insider, he shared that during its first year, the publicist asked him if he was ready “to be associated with the show so much.”

He claimed that he did not have any hard feelings for the show or his character, but he just didn’t want people to know him only as the police chief Jim Hopper. “But I don’t want to be just that character. I don’t want to be just that guy,” he said, talking about his most popular role so far.

David Harbour is Ready to Leave the Nest

As he discussed wanting to say goodbye to his role on the Netflix series, David Harbour shares that he has the potential to become much more than Jim Hopper and wants his fans to see that too. He shared that it is difficult to explain the situation as he does not want to hurt the fans who adore the character.

However, he also wants people to consider and see his work outside the sci-fi horror drama. “I got more in me. I got different stuff in me, and I want you guys to see that,” he said during the interview. He also shared that he wants to star in “original movies that go to the movie theaters.”

Following his work in the Netflix original, the actor has starred in several movies and has made his MCU debut with the 2021 movie Black Widow. He is making his comeback to the silver screen with the upcoming biographical sports drama Gran Turismo.

He is also set to star in James Gunn’s upcoming DC animated series Creature Commandos. He will be voicing Eric Frankenstein in the series. Apart from the superhero genre, the Violent Night star is reportedly starring alongside Pedro Pascal in the drama series My Dentist’s Murder Trial.
