Dominic West is an English actor known for his work as Jimmy McNulty in HBO’s The Wire and Prince Charles in the iconic series The Crown. Portraying the character for 19 episodes in the drama series, West is happy that the series ended.
Although the series ended, Dominic West revealed that he felt quite relieved because he wouldn’t have to make the lives of the Royal family difficult anymore. Stating that he’s a sensitive soul, West misses the show but is glad that it is over.
Dominic West Is Relieved That The Crown Is Over!
With several seasons to its name and depicting the events that transpired with the Royal family, The Crown is one of the finest drama series ever created. Dominic West, who portrayed the role of Prince Charles in the series, is glad that it is over.
In an interview with BBC’s Today, the actor talked about how he didn’t want to make the lives of the Royal family any more difficult than it already is. Stating that he is a sensitive soul who cares what people say about him, West felt relieved when the show ended in 2023.
“I don’t want to make their lives any more difficult than they already are, so I suppose it does concern you. All reactions worry me. I read all the reviews and spent two days in bed. So yes, I’m a sensitive soul, I worry about what people think.”
The actor further continued,
“I was reluctant to take it on but you don’t turn down a Peter Morgan script very easily … He’s such a greater writer and it was such a great show. I loved being on it. I loved wearing the clothes. I loved driving the cars and I loved having people bow to me. It’s an absolutely wonderful feeling. I miss it.”
In a previous interview, people got to know why Dominic West was terrified up to a certain point. Having no proof of how a certain character reacted to a certain situation, West revealed that they had to rely on freestyling stuff!
Dominic West Did Not Know What To React!
The death of Princess Diana was something that shocked the world to a great extent. Dominic West revealed that according to Peter Morgan’s script, the character of Prince Charles howls in pain after hearing the news. The only complication was, they did not know how Prince Charles had actually reacted!
“When I read that Peter had written how Charles reacts to the news of Diana — when he sees her dead, he howls with grief in the Paris hospital to the point that they could hear him outside the room — I thought, ‘Oh, God, no. Oh dear.’ We don’t know, obviously, how Prince Charles reacted,”
He further continued,
“But anyway, he obviously decided to make him very emotional, and I’m glad he did, in hindsight and having done it. I think Charles is an emotional man compared to some of his family.”
Starring in 19 episodes of the show, The Crown received a rating of 8.6/10 on IMDB and 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. With an ensemble cast of several iconic actors, the series is available to stream on Netflix.
