Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya starred in one of 2021’s biggest commerical and critical hits Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Apart from sharing impressive chemistry as co-stars in the film, the two actors also developed an easy friendship off the set that was evident in the various interviews and appearances they made together to promote their film.
But Chalamet and Zendaya’s first introduction to each other was quite an awkward one. While promoting their upcoming sequel Dune 2 which is due to hit the theaters soon, the Euphoria actor remembered the first time she crossed paths with the Wonka star when he failed to come to her aid during an embarrassing situation at the airport.
Timothée Chalamet Cannot Live Down Humiliating Zendaya At Airport
While most friendships are formed through pleasant first-time encounters that develop into close bonds, Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet’s camaraderie did not have a similar beginning. The two stars who will soon be seen in Dune 2, became buddies while working together in the first film, but met in extremely awkward circumstances for the first time.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chalamet and Zendaya along with Florence Pugh and Austin Butler spoke about their upcoming sequel and the expectations from it. When the celebrities were asked about their working relationship and off-set friendship, Zendaya recalled the first time that she technically met Chalamet at the airport before they were cast together in Dune.
What transpired was a very embarrassing situation for the Spider-Man: No Way Home star who fell awkwardly in front of everyone in the airport including Chalamet who was witness to it. When pressed for further details, the celebrity jokingly said,
“Yeah, we were on the same flight, and I fell in the airport and that was technically our first meeting. I don’t wanna talk about it,”
When Florence Pugh goaded her to reveal more, Zendaya confessed that she received no help from the Call Me By Your Name star who admitted that he was clueless about what to do at the time. This response then prompted the Oppenheimer actor to admonish Chalamet for his apparent unchivalrous behavior. The Wonka star put an end to the lighthearted banter by revealing that he had since been forgiven by Zendaya for his lack of empathy on the day.
Zendaya’s Hopes For Euphoria Season 3
Euphoria and Zendaya fans have been waiting impatiently for announcements about season 3. While the 3rd installment of the hit series was originally expected to premier in 2024, the Actors Strike has now ensured that the show will air only by early 2025. Zendaya who will reprise her role as Rue, revealed her hopes for the show including a brighter and happier future for her character Rue. In an interview to The Hollywood Reporter in March 2023, she said,
“I just hope for a little bit of joy and for her just to be able to breathe and love without the fear of losing. I mean she’s gonna have to go through some things, yes, but you know, we’ll get there.”
Zendaya was expected to commence filming Season 3 of Euphoria during the latter half of 2023 for a planned 2024 release. But with the dates being pushed forward significantly, fans will have to hang on a little while longer. Meanwhile, their favorite star is all set to regale audiences in Dune 2.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Euphoria are currently streaming on Hulu.
Dune 2 will release worldwide in theaters on March 15th, 2024.
