Film sets are not as safe as they may appear to be, and sometimes can lead to disastrous accidents. Leonardo DiCaprio had a first-hand experience of the same when his co-star on the set of a Martin Scorsese film had a reckless on-set accident.
DiCaprio has been friends with Stephen Graham for a long time, but that friendship bloomed out of an accident that might have cost DiCaprio his leg. During the shoot of the movie, Gangs of New York, while driving around in a golf cart, Graham accidentally almost crushed his co-star’s leg, leading him to earn his infamous nickname ‘animal’.
When Leonardo Dicaprio nearly Had His Leg Crushed By A Co-Star
Leonardo Dicaprio and Stephen Graham are friendship goals. The two first met on sets of the Martin Scorsese movie, Gangs of New York, and since then have enjoyed each other’s company greatly. However, unlike other friendships, their friendship blossomed after the two were involved in an on-set accident while driving around in a golf cart.
The star of the recently top trending Netflix series Bodies, Graham made an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show and revealed,
“Two days before we’re due to start work he’s driving around in this golf cart and I’ve asked him if I can have a go. I’m driving this golf cart straight down the hill and we’ve come to a corner, and I’ve looked at DiCaprio and, we’re bombing down this hill and as I’ve turned the corner, I’ve hit a brick and the golf cart started to tip. It’s gone like in slow motion and, as it’s gone, his leg’s underneath. It looks like it’s going to land on his foot. And then he just pulled it in and it’s hit the floor.”
While his leg could have been seriously injured, DiCaprio had a frantic yet hilarious reaction.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Reaction To Almost Getting His Leg Crushed
Seeing his leg almost getting crushed by Stephen Graham, Leonardo DiCaprio had a surprisingly hilarious reaction. While talking to Jonathan Ross, Graham explained,
“Then he’s gone on ‘My guys, you could have broken my leg’, and I was going ‘I’m so sorry’. He said ‘This is a hundred and fifty million dollar film, we might have not been able to film it’… He said ‘I f**king love you man, you’re crazy!’ And he gave me the nickname animal from that moment on.”
And from that moment on, the two actors have remained good friends, acting up every now and then.
